4 Subcommittee Sign Outs Depression Screening in post MI/CAD Patients Group formed to implement depression screening tool for cardiac patients. Reviewing previous literature found and extracting new data. Identified a Depression Screening Tool, and searching for data to support appropriate scoring and interpretation, also the most appropriate interventions. Possibly implementing in the Cardiac Rehab Unit. Presenting in November. o Members Suzanne Mackenzie, Kevin Goodwin, Sarah Martin PPIs vs H2 Blockers New group developed, looking into which medications might have less effects on patients. Still developing PICO question, and finding articles. o Members Krystle Eaton, Chris Boyle, Katie Chorik o Advisor Wendy Lucas Post Surgical Oxygen Use New group developed with staff from different types of surgical services. Looking into whether patients actually need to be placed on a face mask after surgery or if a nasal cannula is acceptable. Developing PICO question. o Members Colleen Conboy, Cristle McIntosh, Jane Stull, Chevelle Maxwell o Advisor Kim Fleegle Skin Tear Prevention and Treatment New project formed to look into the effects of tape of skin tears. Member from ET team, approaching IV team to see if they would help with implementation process. Developing PICO o Members Suzanne Martin o Advisors Kim Fleegle Distress Thermometer New group formed, looking into possibly implementing the use of a distress thermometer for patients to help treat/diagnose their anxiety levels. 5 Anxiety Reduction for Surgical Patients New group formed, looking into ways to reduce anxiety for surgical patients and possibly their families. Developing PICO, looking for articles. o Members Heather Yackovcih, Leigh Ann Clark, Ann, Jen Orris Chest Vest vs. Kinetic Physiotherapy Bed Looking to see if one is more effective to help patients that have pneumonia or acute lung injury. o Members Diane Marshall, Greg Romano, Lisa Fondelier, Mike Lavra o Advisor Wendy Lucas Subcommittee Presentation Skin Warming Therapy Group Members: Christobel Graven and Cindy Bakow o After reviewing ten journal articles it was determined that warmed blankets improves patient outcomes and satisfaction. o Throughout all of the articles the common theme was the increase of comfort, reduction of pain, anxiety, and the decreased need for analgesia. o Skin warming would be beneficial in all areas of practice at Shadyside.
