Attend this summit to continue the dialogue in Georgia around how and when to move from a volume-based payment system to a value-based payment system. There are a variety of strategies from Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs), bundled payments, patient-centered medical homes and clinical integration; all building blocks towards the idea of managing populations. This summit will: Highlight the financial outlook necessary for Medicare profitability. Provide an overview of population health and how all of the various strategies discussed will integrate. 7 Faculty William T. Eggbeer Managing Director BDC Advisors Mr. William T. Eggbeer has been a Managing Director with BDC Advisors for over ten years. In addition, he offers clients his extensive experience in senior executive roles in two industry-leading health care and senior living services companies and a health care start-up venture. Specific areas of specialization include: Population Health Strategy, Accountable Care Design and Development, Network Design and Development, Value-Based Reimbursement Initiatives, Faculty Practice Plan Development, Health Plan Development, Long Term Care Strategy and Management, and Home Health Care Strategy and Management. Mr. Eggbeer has a Master of Management (MBA) degree in Marketing and Health Services Management from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University, where he was named a Distinguished Scholar and the Outstanding Graduate in Health Services Management. He also has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Urban Studies with honors from Lawrence University. Karen Handmaker Vice President, Population Health Strategies Phytel Ms. Karen Handmaker has been at Phytel since 2010 and has assisted provider and health system clients achieve their strategic and quality objectives with Phytel s population health suite of products and services. Prior to that, she held senior roles at leading national care management vendors and benefits firms where she developed and implemented total population health management programs for Fortune 500 employers. Additionally, Ms. Handmaker did strategic consulting for provider systems and health plans at various national firms and overseas for ten years. Ms. Handmaker earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies at Trinity College (Hartford, Connecticut) and her Master in Public Policy degree at Harvard University s Harvard Kennedy School of Government. Benjamin Shaker Director of Clinical Integration Orlando Health Mr. Benjamin Shaker serves as Director of Clinical Integration Services for Orlando Health. In his role, he leads initiatives to support system network development, M&A activity and the organization s clinical integration and accountable care strategies. Prior to joining Orlando Health, Mr. Shaker was a Consulting Director at Navvis Healthways. At Navvis, he developed hospital/ physician alignment models and facilitated integrated partnerships among health systems, physician practices and other health care entities. He has also worked as a consultant with Ernst & Young s health care strategy and operations practice. Mr. Shaker received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Youngstown State University and his Master in Health Administration degree from The Ohio State University. He is also a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) and Healthcare Information and Management Systems (HIMSS). Stephanie Mills, MD MHCM President and CEO Franciscan Health and Wellness Services, Inc. Dr. Stephanie Mills serves as President and CEO of Franciscan Health and Wellness Services, a subsidiary of the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady (FMOL) Health System. FMOL Health System is the largest not-for-profit health system in Louisiana, providing care to over 40% of the state s population. Under Dr. Mills leadership, FMOL Health System created the Healthy Lives program, a comprehensive health and wellness service, with clients throughout the United States. Dr. Mills joined FMOL Health System as the Chief Information Officer and Chief Medical Information Officer, and also served as the Vice President of Quality and Health Care Innovation. She practiced pediatric emergency medicine and served as Medical Director of the Pediatric Emergency Department at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, a FMOL Health System subsidiary. Dr. Mills received her Bachelor of Science degree from Louisiana State University, earned her Doctor of Medicine from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, completed her pediatric training at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children s Hospital, and received her Master in Health Care Management degree from Harvard University. 8 Faculty Chris Morgan, FACHE Vice President of Clinical Integration Singing River Health System Mr. Chris Morgan is the Vice President of Clinical Integration at Singing River Health System (SRHS). His responsibilities include developing and managing SRHS Clinical Integration Program and coordinating this vision with over 300 members of the expanded medical staff and to more than 2,700 SRHS employees. Prior to joining SRHS, Mr. Morgan served for over 20 years as a hospital administrator in the United States Air Force. His positions include Director of Emergency Management, Facility Management, Materials and Contract Management, and Business Operations and Managed Care. He also served as Vice President of Operations, Group Practice Management, and Senior Vice President of Patient Administration, Emergency Management and Managed Care. Mr. Morgan was also the Director of Planning and Marketing at Danville Regional Medical Center in Virginia. Mr. Morgan has a Master s degree in Business Administration with an emphasis on health care planning and marketing from William Carey University and a Bachelor s degree in Business Administration and Business Management from Troy University. He is also a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. Jamison Feramisco, MD PhD President and Chief Medical Officer Golden Healthcare President and Chief Medical Officer at Golden Healthcare, Dr. Feramisco is a well-established practicing physician and serial entrepreneur. His passion is to create significance through the efficient application of disruptive and innovative health technology to scale evidence-based clinical care delivery. Dr. Feramisco has worked for years within the telemedicine and telehealth space and has spent time optimizing remote medical service delivery and providing physician and nursing telemedicine services for rural acute hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, assisted and independent living communities, and home care. Dr. Feramisco studied medicine at UT Southwestern Medical School/Parkland Hospital in Dallas and earned his PhD in Biochemisty and Molecular Genetics under the guidance of Nobel Laureates Drs. Mike Brown and Joe Goldstein. Additionally, he received postgraduate medical training in both Internal Medicine and Dermatology at UT Southwestern and UC San Francisco, respectively. Craig Clapper, PE CQM Senior Partner and Chief Operating Officer Healthcare Performance Improvement (HPI) Mr. Craig Clapper is a founding partner and the Chief Operating Officer of Healthcare Performance Improvement (HPI). HPI is a consulting firm that specializes in improving human performance in complex systems using evidence-based methods derived from high-risk industries. Mr. Clapper has 20 years of experience improving reliability in nuclear power, transportation, manufacturing and health care. He served as the lead consultant for Sentara Healthcare with outcomes recognized by award of the American Hospital Association 2004 Quest for Quality Prize and the 2005 John M. Eisenberg Award for Patient Safety and Quality. He is now lead consultant on several safety culture engagements for integrated health care systems. Prior to joining HPI, Mr. Clapper was Chief Operating Officer of Performance Improvement International, Chief Engineer for Hope Creek Nuclear Station and Systems Engineering Manager for Palo Verde Nuclear Generation Station. Mr. Clapper has a Bachelor of Science degree in Nuclear Engineering from Iowa State University. Additionally, he has certifications as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Mechanical Engineering in the State of Arizona and as a Certified Quality Manager (CQM) in the American Society for Quality (ASQ). (Berc) Gawne, Jr., MD MS MPH CPE FACPE Vice President/Chief Medical Officer The Christ Hospital Dr. Bernard Gawne currently serves as Vice President/Chief Medical Officer, Patient Safety Officer, and Designated Institutional Official for Research at The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. He recently was the recipient of the 11th Annual Richard N. Smith, MD, Leadership in Patient Safety Award presented by the Greater Cincinnati Health Council for leading the area s hospital and health care community in patient safety. In January 2013, Becker s Hospital Review included him on the list of 100 Hospital and Health System CMOs to Know. Prior positions include serving as Vice President/Chief Medical Officer for SSM St. Mary s Health Center in St. Louis, Missouri, Vice President/Chief Medical Officer for Provena Health Central Illinois Region and Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs for Owensboro Medical Health System in Owensboro, Kentucky. Dr. Gawne is a graduate of the Loyola-Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood, Illinois. He completed his internship at Northwestern University Medical Center in Chicago and his residency in Ophthalmology at the Loyola University Affiliated Hospitals. Dr. Gawne is board certified in Ophthalmology. Additionally, he has a Master of Science degree in Counseling and Guidance from the Illinois Institute of Technology; a Master of Public Health degree and a Master of Science degree in Management and Organizational Behavior from Benedictine University where he also received a graduate certificate in Managed Care. Kimberly Biery, RN MSN NEA-BC Director, Quality Management Services The Christ Hospital Ms. Kimberly Biery is the Director of Quality Management Services for The Christ Hospital. In her role, Ms. Biery is responsible for working in tandem with the CMO/VPMA to execute the Performance Improvement Plan and Key Strategic Initiatives (KSI) related to quality, patient safety and outcomes. This encompasses identifying and implementing professional practice standards with regard to quality of care, professional staff development/competencies, departmental operational policies and procedures, and evidencebased practices within ALL areas of the enterprise where quality, performance improvement and care coordination is delivered. Additionally, Ms. Biery is responsible for leading interdisciplinary systematic quality approaches to enterprise-generated and facilitycentered initiatives, as well as fostering an environment to drive enhanced collaboration, improvements in quality/safety, service/ financial and operational excellence within the enterprise. She has also been instrumental in the success of the hospital s Target Zero Program whose goal is to reduce events of harm.
