3 DISASTER & RELIEF DEPARTMENT Since 1980, Mediq Norway s Disaster & Relief department, has specialized in medical relief materials for use in emergency situations as well as for various kinds of humanitarian assistance. Products include mobile field hospitals and clinical units that are module based, and extremely flexible. For many years Mediq has been a major supplier to the Norwegian civilian and military emergency services, national and international NGOs and a variety of UN agencies. 3

4 NORHOSP NORWEGIAN MOBILE HOSPITAL AND DISASTER UNIT NorHosp is a flexible medical emergency unit designed to meet demands related to surgical injuries resulting from disasters and armed conflicts. NorHosp contains all instruments and equipment necessary for the treatment of adults and children. NorHosp can be completely and fully operational within 48 hours anywhere in the world, provided there are adequate flight connections. NorHosp can be delivered as a complete unit as seperate 4

6 NORAID - MODULE BASED CLINICAL SYSTEM THE NORAID MODULES ARE ESPECIALLY DESIGNED TO; Meet WHO s requirements for Primary Health Care and Preventional Health Work both in disasterareas and on a permanent basis for a population of 3000 people for 1 month. Reach the most vulnerable groups, which in practice means fighting the under-5 mortality rate and mortality among women, related to pregnancy and birth. Initiate, improve and maintain Primary Health Care and Preventional Health Work during disasters. Contribute to epidermilogic surveillance, disease control and treatment. Train local health personnel and unskilled personnel to maintain the activities after withdrawal of expatriates. Stabilize wounded patients and provide surgery, if needed. 6

8 THE SURGICAL SUPPLY KIT A KIT DEVELOPED BY THE NORWEGIAN COUNCIL OF HEALTH PREPAREDNESS The kit is estimated to cover the needs of medical disposable equipment for approximately 100 surgical in-patients for 10 days, particularly in the post-operative phase. The kit contains all essential medical disposables; Bandages, compresses, drains, tubes, syringes, needles, catheters, infusion accessories, gloves, sutures, burn dressings, hygiene equipment, plaster of Paris and sterilization accessories. The kit was orginally designed for use in the Norwegian Health Preparedness, but is now widely used on an international basis. 8

9 THE NORCARE BED EQUALLY SUITED FOR BOTH EMERGENCY CONDITIONS AND LONG-TERM The NorCare Bed is a light weight bed, capable of enduring maximum stress and weight. In a field hospital setting, the high quality of the NorCare Bed makes it suitable for both internal medical and surgical inpatients. A height of 67 cm between floor and patient facilitates getting in and out of bed for the patient, and gives medical staff a good working position. The NorCare Bed measures only 5 cm in height before assembly. This is an obvious advantage when focus is on reducing shipping costs. 9

11 FIRST AID & EMERGENCY MEDICAL KIT CUSTOMIZED BACK-PACKS FOR EMERGENCY PERSONNEL Mediq Norway AS distributes a wide range of First Aid and Emergency Medical Kits. The Norwegian Police First Aiders backpack is developed in collabration with the Norwegian Police. Inside the bag it is divided into pouches that can easily be removed individually to meet the needs in the situation. The backpack is found in all police vehicles in Norway. The First Aiders backpack on this page contains all necessary items for medical treatments in emergency situations. It is designed to provide rapid and easy access for the treatment of patients as well as the medical security of staff in humanitarian organizations. Mediq also produces and sells IFAK for the Norwegian army as well as other kits, such as the NATO standard general purpose kit for vehicles. 11
