2 1878 Benedictine Sisters arrived in Bismarck on March 21 to establish an academy. Due to settlers suffering, they decided their help was needed in the health care field Lamborn Hotel purchased for the purpose of establishing a hospital. The hospital opened on May 6. Sister Alexius Kurst, OSB, was the first administrator Theodore Roosevelt was a patient at St. Alexius Hospital Hospital blessed by Abbot Alexius and renamed St. Alexius Hospital Sister Regina Ott, OSB, appointed administrator

3 Sister Boniface Timmins, OSB, appointed administrator Patient admitted by the first woman doctor at St. Alexius: Dr. Kate Perkins Louis Sitting Bull, stepson of Chief Sitting Bull, admitted to the hospital Dr. E. P. Quain introduced aseptic and antiseptic methods of sterilization at St. Alexius Hospital First telephones in the state were installed at St. Alexius.

5 1914 Ground breaking for the new hospital on Ninth Street President Woodrow Wilson visited the Sisters at St. Alexius New St. Alexius Hospital completed with 150 beds and 18 doctors on staff School opened for training nurses The first nursing class with 11 students graduated Rev. Thomas Starbec, first hospital chaplain hired.
