1 Learning Supports Outcomes Long Term Care Facility The Long Term Care Facility gives the students the opportunity to care for a stable resident population that allows the student to establish a relationship that progresses over time. The student develops rapport and utilizes therapeutic communication to practice caring behaviors. See Issues from Multiple Perspectives Apply Therapeutic Nursing Interventions The LTC facility gives the students the opportunity to care for a resident population that is culturally varied. Most residents are rural. Collectively the students will engage with a variety of residents with differing cultural practice, values and beliefs. The students begin to develop cultural sensitivity through their interactions with residents. Students explore ethical dilemmas common to the elderly population residing in a LTC facility. The LTC facility gives the students the opportunity to begin practice in a structured clinical environment that supports accountability in the professional role. The LTC facility gives the students the opportunity to begin to use critical thinking in providing basic care to a chronically ill resident population. Students are assigned two stable residents to develop prioritization. The LTC facility gives the students the opportunity to access resident records that document care over time. These early practice opportunities allow the student the ability to begin to use the language of the profession of nursing. The LTC facility gives the students the opportunity to utilize the nursing process and evaluate resident outcomes over time with a stable resident population. Flu Clinics The community based setting gives the students the opportunity to meet, establish rapport, and provide teaching to a wide variety of patients. This clinical experience exposes the student to a rapidly changing population. This contrasts with the LTC facility where the residents are seen over time The community based setting gives the students the opportunity to begin practice in an unstructured clinical environment that supports accountability in the professional role. Apply Therapeutic Nursing Interventions The community based setting gives the students the opportunity to utilize the nursing process and evaluate outcomes with a rapidly changing population.
