The Inpatient Rehabilitation Center at Milford Memorial is a program unique to southern Delaware. Accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, the Inpatient Rehabilitation Center received a 2007 W.L. (Bill) Gore Award of Excellence. Beebe Medical Center operates an open-heart surgery program in affiliation with Christiana Care Health System. 5 Hospitals, continued Dover Behavioral Health System Beebe s Emergency Department in Lewes is a Level III trauma center and from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day Weekend the Beebe Emergency Center on Del. 26 in Millville provides services to visitors and residents. Beebe participates in many community events annually, including the American Cancer Society s Relay for Life and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, the March of Dimes walk and the American Heart Association's Heart Walk. The Community Health department provides cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure, osteoporosis and other free screenings throughout the area. Support programs include an Alzheimer s and caregivers support group, diabetes education and support groups, a Parkinson s disease support group, the Mended Heart program for cardiac patients, and the Better Breathers Club for those with pulmonary disease. Christiana Care Health System Christiana Care, a nonprofit leader in healthcare, has more than a 100-year tradition of providing a full range of high-quality healthcare to Delaware and surrounding communities. Christiana Care has two acute-care hospitals, Wilmington Hospital in downtown Wilmington and Christiana Hospital in the Stanton area. A free regular shuttle service transports patients and visitors between them. Services available at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital include critical and emergency care, maternity and women s health, diagnostic and interventional cardiology, a certified stroke center, a vascular center and a full array of outpatient and therapy services. The hospital provides 24-hour emergency care to the residents of western Sussex County and is a certified Level III trauma center. In fiscal 2009 the hospital treated nearly 5,500 inpatients, provided outpatient services and testing for more than 60,000 patients, performed over 2,500 outpatient surgeries and saw nearly 33,000 patients in the emergency room. The organization is also known as the VA Delaware and Southern New Jersey Healthcare System, recognizing its far-reaching geographic and clinical efforts and responsibilities. Wilmington VA Hospital The Wilmington Delaware campus consists of the 60-bed Medical Center, a 60-bed Community Living Center (CLC), previously known as a nursing home, and a Veterans Benefits Administration facility. The organization also operates five community-based outpatient clinics serving southern Delaware and southern New Jersey. The Medical Center is a Clinical Referral Level 2 complexity facility providing a full range of clinical services with state-of-the-art technology.
