Will help in the development and growth of the PTS offer in this area. Context The British Red Cross helps people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are. We enable vulnerable people in the UK and abroad to prepare for and withstand emergencies in their own communities. And when the crisis is over, we help them to recover and move on with their lives. We provide a broad range of commercial service to fund our charitable work, including Patient Transport Services. Overall purpose of the role You will be providing an essential high quality, patient focused, transport service for patients of varying mobility and [non-emergency] medical needs to and from treatment centres or other venues as directed, preventing further deterioration in the patient during the journey. <<Job title>> 1

2 Main responsibilities and duties : 1. Transport patients to and from treatment centres, undertaking pre-planned and ad-hoc Patient Transport journeys. 2. Effective care of patients, appropriate to their requirements using available equipment. 3. Transfer patients using equipment and skills specific to individual needs. 4. Ensure patients have a safe, smooth journey, complying with all relevant traffic legislation and driving with consideration for other road users. 5. Support the individual along the journey, ensuring that their needs are met in line with the crews scope of practice. 6. Adhere to corporate Instructions and Policies, Operational Instructions, Clinical Protocols, Quality Procedures, other verbal or written instructions promulgated by the Service currently or in the future. 7. The full and accurate maintenance of all records and reports in line with Service policies and procedures, including Accident reporting, Incident Reporting, Patient Transport Records. 8. Ensure vehicles and equipment meet agreed serviceability and that they are kept in a state of cleanliness with daily checks recorded and any defects recorded for action to be taken. 9. Undertake required training to maintain acceptable standards and quality of care. 10. Maintain a current valid driving licence (including standard category B1). 11. Ensure effective communication with the service coordinator. 12. Ensure positive relations with NHS commissioners. 13. Be prepared to work flexibly to ensure patients are moved in a timely, safe and dignified manner. 14. Performing other tasks in keeping with the post as required by management. <<Job title>> 2

3 Specific to job specialism, function or department: 1. You need to have good interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills although full training will be given for any technical requirements. 2. Sensitive when working with vulnerable people and an interest in their well-being 3. In possession of a full driving licence (including standard category B1). Able to pass the BRC vehicle familiarisation and fitness to drive check. 4. Aged 18 or over 5. Willing to uphold the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and adhere to the Society s Equal Opportunities Policy <<Job title>> 3

4 Person Specification Requirements Education & training > Educated to GCSE level or equivalent by experience* > Must be willing to undertake training and pass assessment in the use of lifting equipment, first aid and resuscitation techniques* > Previous first aid, medical training is an advantage, but full training provided.
