Cannon, AuD, CCC-A, is an educational audiologist for Denver Public Schools and consults with the Colorado Department of Education for coordination of educational audiology services statewide. She has over 20 years of experience practicing in the public schools in Colorado and has been recognized for her progressive implementation of school-based audiology services. In Dr. Cannon s role as Audiology Coordinator for CDE, she provides technical support and professional development related to audiology throughout the state. Martha Dewey Bergren, DNS, RN, NCSN, APHN-BC, FNASN, FASHA, FAAN Dr. Bergren is the Director of Advanced Population Health Nursing and Health Systems Leadership and Informatics at the University of Illinois-Chicago where she teaches health promotion, behavior interventions, policy and evidence-based practice. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, the National Association of School Nurses and the American School Health Association. She is a nationally certified in both school nursing and advanced population health nursing. She was Director of Research at the National Association of School Nurses and was lead faculty for the Johnson & Johnson School Health Leadership Program from Ms. Dewey Bergren is presenting: From Good to Great to Excellent & School Nurses: How to be a Local Change Agent. Christy Haas-Howard, MPH, RN, NCSN, AE-C Christy Haas-Howard has been a school nurse with Denver Public Schools since Since 2013, she has been guiding the implementation of school-based asthma management programs. Christy is also currently the program manager for the Asthma Healthy Learner grant at the Colorado Department of Education. As a member of the Asthma Advisory Committee for the National Association of School Nurses, she contributed to the 2015 publication, School Nurse Evidence-Based Clinical Guidelines: Asthma. Ms. Haas-Howard is presenting: Applying Best Practice Asthma Care in Schools: A standardized statewide approach. Mary L. Hoefler, MS, LCSW Mary Hoefler is a licensed clinical social worker and has spent her entire career in behavioral health care. Her early years were spent in San Francisco working in a variety of treatment settings, including Assertive Community Treatment, addiction medicine, inpatient psychiatric care, and community case management. After nine years as a trauma and psychiatric consultant at the University of Colorado Hospital, Mary transitioned to the Office of Behavioral Health and now manages Colorado Crisis Services. 2 Lynn Jenkins-Nygren, BSN, RN Lynn is a Regional Nurse Specialist with the Colorado Department of Education and has collaborated with DPS/National Jewish and Kaiser Permanente to write and assist with implementation of the Healthy Learner Asthma grant now piloted for the North Central and Pikes Peak regions. She is currently working on a graduate degree in nursing education, and her passion is to be a part of transformative change in school nursing that benefits all students. Susan LaBonde, BSN, MA, RN Susan LaBonde has been a school nurse for 14 of her 37 years in nursing. Susan has witnessed much change and progress in the profession of school nursing since she began in Susan s current role as a regional school nurse specialist is focused on a pilot school-based asthma management program. Ms. LaBonde is presenting: Applying Best Practice Asthma Care in Schools: A standardized statewide approach. Amy Lukowski, Psy.D. Dr. Amy Lukowski serves as Clinical Director for Health Initiatives and Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine at National Jewish Health and Associate Professor of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado Denver, School of Medicine. She is a licensed psychologist, Tobacco Treatment Specialist (TTS) and a MINT (Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers). She has expertise in health behavior change and addressing the psychological aspects of both dependence and obesity. Beth Mattey, MSN, BSN, RN, NCSN Beth is the President of the National Association of School Nurses and this year began her 30 th year as a school nurse. During her career, she has worked with elementary students, high school students and students with special needs. She is currently the lead school nurse in the Brandywine School District. She is an instructor at the University of Delaware and an author in both editions of Selekman s School Nursing: A Comprehensive Text. She was recently named one of the 50 Alumni Stars in Nursing by the University of Delaware. Ms. Mattey is presenting: School Nursing in the 21 st Century & What s My Line? Pamela Brunner Nii, BSN, RN, NCSN, AE-C Pam is in her 20 th year as a school nurse consultant for Children s Hospital Colorado. 3 Kathleen Patrick, BSN, MA, RN, NCSN, FNASN Kathleen started her career in school nursing with Jefferson County School District in 1994 and received her Master s in Educational Counseling in In 2006 she became the State School Nurse Consultant with the Colorado Department of Education and works with the school nurses around the state by providing professional development and technical assistance. Kathleen is a Nationally Certified School Nurse and is a Fellow of the National Academy of School Nurses. Ms. Patrick is presenting: What is ESSA and What is My Role? And Delegation 201. Diana Protopapa Diana Protopapa joined Frontline Public Affairs in 2012 and recently became a Partner in the firm. She has worked in the legislative and regulatory arena since 2000 as an accomplished lobbyist, political strategist, and grassroots mobilizer. She is well known for her ability to get complex legislation over the finish line based on her strong relationships with elected officials and collaborative approach with key stakeholders. Diana s successes include passing legislation or budget items related to: Securing funding for substance abuse treatment Medicaid reimbursement increases for providers Funding and reforms for the mental health care system Health insurance reform and regulation Scope of practice of health and mental health professionals Electronic health records and health information exchange funding and support Workers compensation and professional liability insurance Prior to joining Frontline Public Affairs, Diana worked at the Colorado Medical Society for ten years, serving as Director of Political Affairs and Education. As head of the Colorado Medical Political Action Committee, she led fundraising and political outreach campaigns. She has also held policy/lobbying positions with the Colorado Consumer Health Initiative and the Colorado Coalition Against Domestic Violence. Diana holds a bachelor s degree in communications from Kent State University and a Master s Degree in Social Work (MSW) from the University of Denver. Ms. Protopapa is presenting: 2016 Legislative Session Debrief and What s to Come Lynn Riemer Lynn Riemer is an accomplished speaker, trainer, and advocate on issues relating to substance abuse. Lynn is president of ACT on Drugs, Inc., a non-profit organization with a mission to educate parents, teens, and professionals about addictive and psychoactive substances, both legal and illegal, which are available in their community. With her in-depth chemistry knowledge of drugs, having served with DEA and on the North Metro Drug Task Force, and her engaging style she brings a real, personal, and vivid face to the issues presented by illicit drug use. 4 Taylor Stein, BA Taylor grew up in Lafayette, CO and attended BVSD schools. Before graduating from Seattle University, they were heavily involved in working to address HIV/AIDS education, access to bathrooms, and support of the LGBTQIA+ community both on and off campus. Taylor is excited to have spent the last two years working back in their home with the OASOS program at Boulder County Public Health offering supports to LGBTQIA+ youth, their schools, families, and communities. Ms. Stein is presenting: Health and LGBTQIA+ Students Scott Turner, MSN, DNP, RN, FNP-C Scott Turner is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and a nurse practitioner in the Section of Neurology at Children s Hospital Colorado. He has worked as a nurse practitioner specializing in pediatric neurology for the past 13years. He recently completed his Doctor of Nursing Practice degree at the University of Colorado with a capstone project entitled Minding the Gap in Pediatric Headache Care. Mr. Turner is presenting: Supporting Children & Adolescents with Recurrent Headache Janet Tyler, Ph.D., CBIST Janet Tyler, Ph.D. is the Senior Brain Injury Consultant, Health and Wellness Unit, CDE where she provides support to districts to facilitate the educational needs of students with brain injury. Prior to moving to Colorado, for twenty-three years Dr. Tyler served as director of an innovated statewide program in Kansas that provided training and consultation to educators serving students with brain injuries. Ms. Tyler is presenting: Supporting Students with Concussion: Best Practices for Schools. Caitlin E. Walsh, Ph. D, Licensed Psychologist Dr. Caitlin Walsh is a Colorado State Licensed Psychologist and Clinical Instructor in the Department of Pediatrics Division of Developmental Pediatrics at the University Of Colorado School Of Medicine. She received her doctoral degree in clinical psychology from Stony Brook University in New York and completed a child clinical internship at NYU Child Study Center and Bellevue Hospital Center. Dr. Walsh was a postdoctoral fellow in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities at JFK Partners. She specializes in dual diagnosis, autism spectrum disorders, and adolescent issues. 5 Rona Wilensky, Ph.D. Rona Wilensky was principal and founder of New Vista High School in Boulder from She is currently Director of Mindfulness Programs at Passageworks Institute. She is actively integrating diversity and cultural responsiveness work within the mindfulness movement through presentations and planning conferences. Rona served on the Leadership Council of the Initiative on Contemplative Teaching and Learning at the Garrison Institute and is a Fellow of the Mind and Life Institute. Ms. Wilensky is presenting: Mindfulness for Self-Care and Professional Efficacy & An Introduction to Mindfulness for Personal and Professional Well-Being. Joe Wismann-Horther, M.Ed. Joe was born and raised in Durango, Colorado. He has studied and worked in Spain, Mexico, Paraguay, Morocco, El Salvador, Dominican Republic, St. Lucia, China, and Mongolia. He has an extensive background in nonprofit management, program management and training in diverse cultural settings. Joe received a M.Ed. in International Education from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. What intrigues him most about learning and bridging social capital initiatives; is finding the common threads that bring people from different cultural backgrounds together in their efforts to improve their lives and communities. Mr. Wismann-Horther is presenting: Refugee Resettlement: Understanding the Current Context Kim Wolff Kim Wolff is the Early Childhood Trainer & Consultant for the Healthy Child Care Colorado initiative at Qualistar Colorado. Kim teaches early childhood programs across the state about important strategies to support healthy and age appropriate child development. She focuses on training and consultation related to obesity prevention, oral health, and child development. Kim shares her expertise with staff, health consultants, and trainers about best practices that they can incorporate into their program. Ms. Wolff is presenting: Exploring Childhood Oral Health Practices. Leah Wyckoff, MS, BSN, RN, NCSN Diabetes Nurse Educator at Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes, University of Colorado; School Nurse Consultant, and Colorado Diabetes Resource Nurse Consultant.
