2 Over the last 30 years, there have been rapid increases in the number of persons who are overweight or obese. This is alarming especially because overweight and obese persons are at risk for many serious health conditions, including but not limited to high blood pressure, high cholesterol and type 2 diabetes. Obesity is impacting individual lives as well as health. For the first time in two centuries, the current generation of children in America may have shorter life expectancies than their parents (American Heart Association). The goal of this conference is to engage healthcare providers in learning about the obesity epidemic and expose them to cutting-edge clinical and research approaches for the recognition, treatment and prevention of obesity. There will be ample time for discussion, questions and answers as well as interaction among the participants in a formal setting. Objectives As a result of participating in this activity, participants should be able to: 4 Evaluate the rationale and efficacy 4 Develop clinical skills to identify, of pharmaceutical interventions and evaluate and treat obesity and its related nascent drug therapies targeting the comorbidities with special emphasis on treatment of obesity diabetes and childhood obesity 4 Assess the efficacy of bariatric surgery 4 Implement the skill for a practical in the treatment of obesity and describe inter-professional approach to obesity the role of emerging technologies in the by motivating patients via behavior treatment of the metabolic syndrome modification and office based 4 Recognize the medical, economic, and dietary counseling societal burden of the obesity epidemic across age, gender, and race/ethnicity Accommodations Rosen Centre Hotel 9840 International Dr. Orlando, Florida (800) Rosen Centre is located on the famous International Drive, adjacent to the Orange County Convention Center, the country s second largest convention center.
