Competency 2 The student will be able to discuss training, certification and employment procedures of a surgical technologist, including tasks and responsibilities of the non-sterile and sterile surgical technologist. Competency 7 The student will be able to describe the role of the surgical technologist including the importance of maintaining environmental awareness of the surgical team, conditions affecting the patient and anticipation of the surgeon s needs intraoperatively. Objective 7.2 Demonstrate awareness that all surgical patients have the right to the highest standards and practices in asepsis. Competency 8 The student will be able to identify special needs groups, including pediatric, obese, diabetic, immunocompromised, disabled, and geriatric and demonstrate the same quality standard of care for all surgical patients.
