Must have a minimum of two (2) years full-time equivalent practice as a Registered Nurse in a clinical setting preceding the first date of first employment as a nursing faculty member. BSN preferred; associate degree or diploma in nursing with evidence of continued progress towards a BSN with completion of a minimum of six (6) semester hours per calendar year. Full-time, 11-month contract, Monday-Friday. 2 JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: PRACTICAL NURSING INSTRUCTOR SALARY LEVEL: SALARY SCHEDULE DEPARTMENT: REPORTS TO: HEALTH OCCUPATIONS PRACTICAL NURSING DIRECTOR SUMMARY: Instructs practical nursing curriculum to adult students in a traditional format. Teacher will be on an 11-month Adult Non-continuing Contract. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Registered nurse with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Master of Science in Nursing degree preferred. Must have two (2) years full-time equivalent practice as an RN in a clinical setting, within the last five (5) years preceding the first date of first employment as a teacher. Must hold a valid Oklahoma RN license. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION: Oklahoma Nursing License and CPR certification. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises adult students in the Practical Nursing Program. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the district s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training students; planning, assigning, and directing laboratory and clinical assignments; evaluating performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Instructs students by using a variety of instructional techniques, including lecture, demonstration, return demonstration, audiovisual aids, computer-assisted instruction, and facilitating group and independent study. 2. Prepares course objectives and outline for course of study following curriculum guidelines or requirements of Oklahoma Board of Nursing, state and school. 3. Identifies suitable instructional materials. 4. Assists in making arrangements for clinical practice experiences. 5. Supervise clinical practice in a variety of clinical settings with emphasis on, but not limited to, adult medical-surgical nursing in outpatient, acute long-term care and rehabilitative settings. 6. Assigns student work to enhance learning.
4 7. Evaluates student achievement for theory, skills, and clinical courses. 8. Prepares evaluation instruments for theory and skill components. 9. Advises students of progress and/or problems in meeting objectives. Advise nursing director of student problems in meeting objectives. 10. Writes plan of improvement to meet state requirements for students not performing at proper level. 11. Assists in preparing students for NCLEX examination. 12. Keeps an accurate attendance record. 13. Maintains a positive learning atmosphere in classroom and clinical settings. 14. Contributes to the practical nursing program s systematic evaluation plan. 15. Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, teacher training workshops, advisory committee meetings, open house, and other designated meetings. 16. Performs related duties such as sponsoring activities or student organizations, assisting pupils in job placement. 17. Prepares students for work related jobs upon completion of course. 18. Share responsibility in care of equipment and facilities. 19. Contribute to overall development of nursing curriculum by participation in nursing faculty meetings and projects. 20. Assists other PN nursing faculty, as needed. 21. Work cooperatively with nursing and Tech Center faculty, staff and administration, as well as, with other health care providers in the clinical setting. 22. Provide a professional role model for students in grooming, actions and nursing practice.
