1 Leadership Catalog January 2015 through December 2015 *Register for all classes on HealthStream* Essentials of Interviewing and Onboarding This course provides an overview of the recruitment process and how positions are approved. Objectives: Understand the employment process Identify roles/responsibilities of the manager and staffing during the employment process Review behavioral-based interviewing and create questions for specific jobs Know what questions are legal to ask during an interview Review the on-boarding process April 17, 2015 September 11, 2015 November 6, 2015 Managers Supervisors HR Policies & Procedures This course introduces new and seasoned managers to HR policies and practices and covers the essentials of employment laws and policies including: discrimination and harassment prevention, workplace violence, drug-free workplace and attendance and punctuality policies. Objectives: Locate HR policies in StaffHub Site appropriate guidelines when coaching and counseling employees April 24, 2015 October 9, 2015 Managers Supervisors Faculty: Ministry HR Partner 7 Habits of Highly Effective People This Franklin Covey two-day workshop is designed to help individuals focus on their area of influence and learn to prioritize activities that contribute toward important goals. Objectives: Participants will be able to gain skills to approach others to reach synergistic solutions and build trust by: Focusing on their circle of influence Planning with the end in mind Thinking win-win 2-day course: May 15 & 22, 2015 August 14 & 21, am 5pm (Must complete both days) Open to leaders with direct reports Page 1 of 8

2 Creating a Healthy Work Environment Designed to provide guidelines to improve communication, resolve conflict, and improve interdisciplinary relationships. The format follows American Association of Critical Care Nurses Standards to establish a healthy work environment. These evidence based standards focus on TJC national patient safety goals, Institute of Medicine reports and other research that points to the need for increased collaboration and clear communication among all healthcare workers. 7 CEs February 5, 2015 September 22, am 4pm Open to all employees Faculty: Vivian Norman, Kathy Dureault Giving Meaningful Feedback and Recognition Designed to help employees give meaningful and constructive feedback and recognition. Objectives: Participants will gain tools to prepare for and deliver feedback to improve performance to include: Coaching Giving recognition May 29, 2015 August 7, 2015 November 13, 2015 Coordinators and Supervisors /HR Business Partner Mastering Meetings This class is designed to equip employees with the skills, knowledge and mindset to lead and participate in efficient meetings that produce quality results. Objectives: by the end of the workshop, participants will be able to: Explain the foundations of effective meeting management Set a meeting up for success Conduct productive meetings and ensure follow through May 1, 2015 October 23, 2015 Employees who lead committees or meetings Presentation Skills This two-day class provides the steps in preparing a formal presentation, how to use persuasion, and how to organize your presentation for impact. The power of your presence, appearance, body language and voice is emphasized. Techniques in handling difficult audiences and fielding questions are discussed. On Day 2, which is a week later, the participants are given an opportunity to make a presentation, with the faculty as mentors, and to review/critique the presentation. June 12 & 19, 2015 October 16 & 23, am 11am Coordinators and other employees Faculty: Sharon Kleinheinz and Vivian Norman Conducting Effective Performance Evaluations Performance management is an ongoing process of communication that involves setting clear expectations, performance coaching, feedback, and measurement of continuous improvement. Topics discussed include: How to communicate expectations and coaching for optimum performance. Participants will have the opportunity to practice giving a performance review. June 12, 2015 July 17, 2015 August 27, 2015 Directors, Managers Supervisors (anyone who completes performance evaluations for employees) Page 2 of 8

3 Writing SMART Goals This course will review the elements in SMART goals, including how to set clear expectations for optimal performance. SMART goals are specific, measurable, achievable, results-focused and timebound. Participants will have an opportunity to create performance plans and job expectations using the SMART formula for goals. June 26, 2015 September 25, pm-4pm Directors, Managers Supervisors (anyone who completes performance evaluations for employees) Essentials of Nurse Manager Orientation ENMO A comprehensive course for frontline managers, charge nurses, clinical coordinators, aspiring managers and leadership staff. Essentials of Nurse Manager Orientation was developed by American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) and American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE). It is the first leadership course created specifically for nurse managers. 40 CEs ENMO participants are matched with an expert Coach to complete practicum that compliments the didactic online course. Faculty: Vivian Norman (program coordinator) Next cohort starts March 2015 (New cohort every 18 months) Managers And Rising Stars with Manager/Director Approval Financial Management: Budgeting for Nurse Mangers This one hour course will review the basics of the budgeting process and apply sound principles of financial management to nursing unit management. Components of the operating budget will be discussed, including personnel, supplies and capital budget requests. June 11, 2015 October 19, noon 1pm Managers, clinical coordinators, charge nurses & staff nurses Faculty: Carmen Ferrell Financial Management: Understanding Productivity This one-hour workshop will provide an overview of productivity. Specific departments units of service will be discussed. Examples will be provided for the participants to gain real experience in calculating productivity. Measures to improve productivity will be discussed. June 19, 2015 October 5, noon 1pm Managers, clinical coordinators, charge nurses & staff nurses Faculty: Carmen Ferrell Clinical Inquiry #1 Searching PubMed & CINAHL This course will describe available sources for nursing and medical research to support/inform evidence based practice. You will be able to create an effective search strategy to find nursing research based on the core concepts of a clinical question and understand the basic principles for conducting an effective literature search in the PubMed and CINAHL databases March 12, 2015 July 9, 2015 November 12, am 12n Coordinators, other interested staff Faculty: Danielle Linden Page 3 of 8

4 Clinical Inquiry #2 Evidence-based Practice This course provides the background and skills necessary for finding answers to clinical and leadership questions. Models to guide evidence-based practice will be introduced, explored, and applied to scenarios. Participants will learn to evaluate and rate the strength of evidence. Faculty: Beth Winokur January 14, 2015 July 2, 2015 Coordinators, other interested staff Clinical Inquiry #3 Research This course provides an overview of nursing research. Content includes an overview of types of research, research terms, and study components including data analysis. The role of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) in protection of human subjects will be reviewed. Faculty: Beth Winokur February 4, 2015 August 6, 2015 Coordinators, other interested staff Clinical Inquiry #4 Abstract Writing The focus of this four hour workshop is to prepare the participant to develop and write an abstract for submission. Content will include a review of: abstract criteria from professional organizations, components of abstracts, and scholarly writing style. Assistance during class time will be provided to complete an outline of an abstract. This course is appropriate for professionals contemplating submission of an abstract to a professional organization Faculty: Beth Winokur March 4, 2015 October 14, 2015 Coordinators, other interested staff Preceptor Principles This mixed media, two part course is for employees in any healthcare setting who are moving into the role of preceptor. A total of 8 CEs are available (4 CEs for each part) The Preceptor Principles OnLine Pre-Learning Module, available on HealthStream is designed to provide a foundation of key concepts to build a strong knowledge base for the new preceptor. It is intended as a pre-requisite for the Preceptor Principles Workshop, which wil focus on skill development 4 CEs The Preceptor Principles Workshop, Part II of the Preceptor Principles, is designed to provide an opportunity for the new preceptor to practice and apply the knowledge learned in the Pre- Learning Module. 4 CEs Workshop: March 25, 2015 Anyone who has completed the Preceptor Principles Class >12 months prior to the Preceptor Update Class The Pre-Learning Module must be completed prior to taking the Workshop Faculty: Cyndi Morton & Amy Hayes Preceptor Update Preceptor Update This biannual online Health Stream review of Preceptor Principles is a requirement to maintain RN Preceptor status. Based on on-going feedback from preceptors, managers, and educators, it will focus on identified needs, such as documentation requirements, evaluations, role-modeling as well as review key principles to facilitate successful role transition for new staff Prerequisite: Completion of the 8-hour Preceptor Principles class or Preceptor Workshop 1 CE Faculty: Cyndi Morton, Amy Hayes The course will be in an online format on HealthStream to be completed biannually Anyone who has completed the Preceptor Principles Class >12 months prior to the Preceptor Update Class Page 4 of 8

5 Relief Charge Nurse Designed to prepare the RN who is new to the role of Relief Charge Nurse with the knowledge and skills necessary to incorporate multi-tasking administrative and clerical functions. The course will reinforce communication and interpersonal skills and reviews concepts pertinent to professional nursing practice as well as legal and ethical consideration. 8 CEs March 12, 2015 October 12, 2015 Relief Charge Nurses new to the role Prerequisite: Completion of Creating a Healthy Work Environment Class 8am 4:30pm Faculty: Kathy Dureault Risk & Regulatory This class will introduce and update emerging Risk and Regulatory concerns for the Healthcare Provider. Included will be the new California Privacy Laws, SB-541, effective communication, consent requirements, and understanding the use of social media related to healthcare use. 6 Computer s Time(s) Word 2010 Microsoft Word is a word processor that can be used to create documents with text, tables, graphics, reference and navigation sections, and much more. Word 2010 introduces a versatile navigation Pane for finding text and organizing documents, and expands its suite of image manipulation tools to include a screenshot capture feature, new artistic effects, and an enhanced SmartArt gallery. No CEs January 22, 2015 September 23, :30a 12n For all employees Excel 2010 Microsoft Excel is a spreadsheet program that enables you to perform simple or complex calculations using a broad range of mathematical tools, and to use filtering and sorting to organize, emphasize and contrast data. This class is an introduction to spreadsheets for beginning users who have very limited or no experience using a spreadsheet program. No CEs January 14, 2015 April 8, 2015 July 9, 2015 October 7, 2015 For all employees Intermediate Excel 2010 Microsoft Excel is a spreadsheet software program that allows individuals to make quick and accurate numerical calculations. Excel provides the tools to create charts, databases, financial reports and statistical analysis. This is an intermediate level class for the individual who has been using Excel for basic spreadsheets and wants to learn the tools and techniques for creating more professional looking reports. No CEs February 11, 2015 May 13, 2015 August 12, 2015 November 5, 2015 who has completed the introduction to Excel class or demonstrates ability. Advanced Excel 2010: Pivot Tables This class features some of the most powerful and useful features and functions in Microsoft Excel that remain undiscovered by users. This is an advanced class focusing on data retrieval with new functions that allow you to enter up to 127 different criteria. Focus for this session is Excel Pivot Tables. No CEs April 16, a-12n For all advanced level Excel Users Advanced Excel 2010: Charts & Graphs This class features some of the most powerful and useful features and functions in Microsoft Excel that remain undiscovered by users. This is an advanced class focusing on data retrieval with new functions that allow you to enter up to 127 different criteria. This session will cover Excel Charts and Graphs. New features in PowerPoint 2010 allow you to edit, correct, and manipulate photos and videos like never before, and the inclusion of a new number of new transitions animations and SmartArt enhancements will allow for even more professionalism in your designs No CEs March 19, 2015 July 29, 2015 Office 2010 New Features Office 2010 contains a number of new features the most notable of which is the entirely new graphical user interface. The Backstage View replaces the File menu (in 2003) and Office Button (in 2007) from previous versions of Microsoft Office. The New Features class will explore Word, Power Point and Excel. No CEs May 8, 2015 Intermediate Power Point 2010 Microsoft Power Point is a desktop presentation program that produces professional presentations. Power Point makes it easier to organize, illustrate and deliver your ideas professionally.
