1 National Certificate Cleaning and Caretaking (Level 2) with strands in Commercial Cleaning, and Health Care Facilities This introductory qualification provides general commercial cleaning skills and the option of specialising in areas relevant to commercial cleaning jobs. Programme overview This qualification is designed to provide broad core skills and knowledge for those working in the cleaning services industry. The qualification also includes strands that cover broad transferable skills such as health and safety, communication skills, and service sector competencies. Learning and assessment for this qualification occurs in the workplace. To support learning, a literacy evaluation will take place at the beginning and end of the qualification. Programme outline The qualification covers the following topics: cleaning floors, toilet facilities, furniture and fixtures and glass. safe work practices. The Commercial Cleaning strand allows workplaces or trainees to select from a broad range of unit standards to create a tailored qualification that suits the requirements of their workplace. The Healthcare Facilities strand covers the following topics relevant to providing cleaning services to a healthcare facility: follow infection control precautions. clean food preparation areas, windows, walls, ceilings, fixtures and stairwells. clean health care facilities. communicate information and provide customer service. prepare and serve hot drinks to patients. clean hard floors info@careerforce.org.nz

2 Average duration 8 months Commercial Cleaning strand 9 months Healthcare Facilities strand Fees $200 Credits 45 credits Commercial Cleaning strand 49 credits Healthcare Facilities strand Enrolment requirements To enrol in Cleaning and Caretaking (Level 2), the trainee must meet the following requirements: be employed as a cleaner or caretaker. have one of the following residency statuses: o New Zealand citizen (including Cook Islands, Niue and Tokelau citizens) o New Zealand permanent resident o New Zealand work permit/work visa o Australian citizen o hold refugee status in New Zealand. 3 Cleaning and Caretaking (Level 2) Certificate Requirements Summary of requirements Core compulsory (both strands): Five compulsory unit standards totalling 19 credits. Commercial Cleaning Strand: Minimum 26 credits from Electives 1 and 2. o Elective 1: Minimum of 16 credits at Level 2 or above. o Elective 2: Minimum of 5 credits at Level 2 or above. Health Care Facilities Strand: Minimum of 30 credits from Compulsory and Elective. o Additional Compulsory: Ten compulsory unit standards totalling 27 credits. o Elective: Minimum of 1 standard.
