2 Administrative - Master Syllabus I. Topical Outline Each offering of this course must include the following topics (be sure to include information regarding lab, practicum, clinical or other non lecture instruction): Utilization of nursing skills, the nursing process in: Medical/ Surgical Nursing; Pediatric Nursing; Intensive Care Unit Nursing; Team Leadership Nursing; Geriatric/Psychiatric Nursing; Ambulatory Surgery Nursing; Obstetrical Nursing II. Course Learning Outcomes Course Learning Outcome Utilizing the nursing process, provide safe patient/client care within the clinical setting. Accurately plan, implement, and document patient/client care 1 Clinical Evaluations 1 Final exam Method of Assessment III. Required Text(s), Optional Text(s) and/or Materials to be Supplied by Student. Medication handbook, Skills text, Diagnostic testing handbook, student uniform, stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, pen light, black pen, appropriate forms for chart review, laboratory data evaluation, daily assessment, documentation, medication review, and care plan IV. Suggested Course Maximum - 40 V. List any specific spatial or physical requirements beyond a typical classroom required to teach the course. Acute care facility, medical clinic, physician's office, and long-term care facility, computer lab VI. Course Requirements/Grading System Describe any course specific requirements such as research papers or reading assignments and the generalized grading format for the course One individualized clinical evaluation by supervising instructor, based on clinical objectives as outlined in course syllabus will be 30% of final grade. Final exam will be 20% of the grade. The NCLEX-PN review

3 tests will be 30% of the final grade. The Medical Terminology tests will be 10% of the final grade. Pharmacology tests will be 10% of the final grade. Scale Key Performance 3 = Exceptional performance consistently exceeds expectations 2 = Performs as expected for this level 1 = Needs improvement Required intensive guidance to perform 0 = Unsafe or inappropriate clinical practice VII. Preclinical data collection and analysis. Medication Calculation Clinical evaluation of student performance in planning and implementing safe patient care in clinical setting. Daily clinical evaluation of student performance that demonstrates expected behavior of the vocational nurse. Final clinical objectives evaluation. 7 WORKPLACE COMPETENCIES: resources;interpersonal skills; information; systems; and technology 8 BASIC USE OF COMPUTERS Daily Clinical Evaluation of student performance that demonstrates ability to function as a provider of care, coordinator of care, and vocational nurse member. Completion of required skills to include initiating of IV therapy, IV fluid administration, IVPB medication administration. Demonstrate competency in retrieving medications using an automated medication administration system. Demonstrate NCLEX-PN readiness via assigned computer testing.
