Celebrating 15 Years of Service Mission: The American Nurse Practitioner Foundation provides solutions to the healthcare challenges of today s global community by advancing the role of nurse practitioners. Through educational scholarships, innovative research grants and robust programs, ANPF connects nurse practitioners to the resources they need to provide high-quality, accessible healthcare to all. Founded: in 1998 as an independent nonprofit organization, 501(c)(3) the American Nurse Practitioner (ANP) Foundation is the first national foundation supporting NP s of all specialties. 2 P a g e

We Are A Team Comprised of the board of directors, staff, donors, and Nurse Practitioners (NPs) who serve as our advisors and whom we support with educational programs, scholarships, advocacy, and acknowledgment. At the close of 2012, the American Nurse Practitioner Foundation (ANPF) launched its new name, advance programming and a vision for the future. Formally known as the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Foundation, the ANPF repositioned and expanded operations in order to serve the entire NP profession. ANPF genuinely feels that NP s are a major part of the solution to the health care crisis and will not only continue to offer NP scholarships, grants and research support but also expand programs with more opportunities for partnering and engaging in health related collaborations. Our name is new but the Foundation has been active since 1998 and the ANPF is timely positioned to expand with innovative programs to assist NP s and the public s health. Kay Todd, PhD, CAE ANPF CEO 3 P a g e

Strong Foundation It has been one of the most engaging challenges in my professional life, shares Captain James LaVelle Dickens, DNP, FNP, FAANP, and president of the Foundation board of directors. Knowing the immediate health care needs of the nation, the positioning and capabilities of Nurse Practitioners in addressing many of these needs and the Foundation s unique positioning, there has been much to do in very short order, he explains. Having served as the board president since 2012, Dickens is well positioned to help guide the Foundation s expanded presence. We are risk takers out of necessity I would rather be criticized for pushing forward rather than being passive in a time of critical need. He gives credit to the seven member board for volunteering many late hours in 2012 as they each did their best to anticipate the needs of NP and to redefine the organization s mission to prioritize the health needs of the public. The board members, staff and the contributors can all take satisfaction that 2012 was a banner year and we are a stronger Foundation for it. In addition to tremendous growth in programs, the Foundation launched a social media presence, the Loretta Ford Legacy Society, and opened the doors to new corporate partnerships. Last year we built a new national stage on which the Foundation can now operate, I am confident in the team we have assembled, the mission and the direction we are heading. James LaVelle Dickens, DNP, NP, FAANP ANP Foundation Board of Directors, President 4 P a g e

A Sense of Accomplishment It was a year of growth and change for the ANP Foundation. Responding to the needs of Nurse Practitioners and the growing gap in health care, the Foundation prepared to launch its new name, advance programming and expanded vision. The Foundation s compelling mission and growing partnerships, combined with the skills and resources of Nurse practitioners is well poised for increased impact on health care in 2013 and beyond. While we welcome the opportunity to share the Foundation s 2012 accomplishments, we have raised the bar for 2013 and invite increased participation Program Highlights Scholarships and Grants Awarded In 2012 the ANP Foundation gave $108,000 for 15 Scholarships and 5 Grants awardees. Since the fund s inception in 1998, over one million dollars in awards have been distributed to over 500 highly-qualified NPs providing an immediate impact for patients. Grants and Research Awards support investigative work across the country, with applications competitively reviewed by committee of 19 NPs. S&G Endowment Fund A Scholarship and Grant Endowment Fund was established in 2012 with an ultimate fund goal of two million dollars. Take Care Health Systems, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Walgreens, provided a Founder s Gift of $100,000 for the successful launch. Simply Health In Practice (SHIP) A Foundation flagship program that addresses nutrition, fitness, and well-being needs of Nurse Practitioners and their patients inspiring and empowering healthy living by example saw a surge of growth. New materials and online availability, expanded content, a NP blog, and other enhancements were added and NP requests jumped. Humanitarian Activities Outstanding Domestic and International work by NPs was acknowledged and awards were given at the 2012 Honors Dinner. The 2012 dinner was an overwhelming success with attendance tripling the previous event Corporate Sponsors Last year the Foundation received over $383,500 in corporate support, primarily through the Corporate Council. This professional cadre has been critical to the Foundation s growth and success and is extended sincerest thanks. 5 P a g e

Already the current reach of the Foundation is to over 100,000 NPs REVENUES Financial Review Special Events $95,954 Investment Income $34,390 Misc. $9,137 Individuals $40,886 Grants $151,820 Corp. Estate Planning giving back to the NP profession with a gift that keeps giving and provides tax benefits. Loretta C. Ford Leave a Legacy Fund established in 2012, this campaign honors a founder and benefits the profession. A $100 contribution goes directly to the Leave a Legacy Fund and qualifies an individual as a member of the Loretta C. Ford Society. Member names appear on the Foundation website and receive a complimentary Friend of the Foundation membership. Gifts are tax-deductible and provide meaningful scholarships to support NP education. Grateful Patient Donation a means of recognizing compassionate and exceptional professional services. Gifts can be made anonymously and donors have the option of specific NP recognition with their donation. Friends of the Foundation Supporting the Foundation at $35 or higher makes individuals an official Friend and includes a welcome kit that includes a discount on the ANPF Patient Engagement mobile app, exclusive auto and home insurance benefits, pharmacy cards for discounted prescriptions at 56,000 pharmacies, and a NP logo window cling. Help shape the future of health care and consider a donation today. 8 P a g e
