1 JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: DEPARTMENT: RESPONSIBLE TO: LECTURER PRACTITIONER DEVELOPMENT NURSING NURSE MANAGER/DIRECTOR OF NURSING BACKGROUND TO THE POST In 2007 St Christopher s and the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery, Kings College London, agreed to jointly appoint a Lecturer Practitioner, a specialist nurse working at advanced level with a post-graduate teaching qualification and experience and skills in teaching at all levels. This role is currently held by our Director of Education and Training but after review the 2-day secondment to Kings is to become vacant in September PRIMARY JOB PURPOSE Whilst maintaining and role modelling nursing skills at advanced level through a clinical caseload 3 days a week at St Christopher s, the Lecturer Practitioner will also spend 2 days a week seconded to the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery (FNFNM), Kings College London (KCL) as specialist lead for palliative and end of life care courses at degree and Masters level. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES 1. To provide expert evidence-based palliative care nursing care at advanced level to St Christopher s patients, families and local communities 2. Lead and co-ordinate the curriculum design, delivery and evaluation of post-qualification palliative and end of life care teaching programmes for the FNFNM, KCL in collaboration with St Christopher s 3. Monitor and ensure the quality of teaching contributions from St Christopher s expert clinicians 4. Contribute to curriculum design, delivery and evaluation of palliative and end of life care and related subjects within the pre-registration programme at FNFNM, KCL 5. To undertake the role of Link Lecturer and Account Manager liaising directly with the clinical areas on behalf of KCL student nurses on placement at St Christopher s 6. To supervise dissertation students on BSc nursing programmes 7. Marking of assignments including BSc dissertations in accordance with exam board regulations LECTURER PRACTITIONER August

Contribute to the life of the FNFNM by attending adult department meetings, faculty forums and CPPD events as appropriate Safeguarding All staff are required to take responsibility in all areas of work for safeguarding people at risk (both adults and children) from any form of abuse or neglect. In order to achieve this, staff are required to read St. Christopher s Safeguarding Policy, participate in regular training and incorporate preventative strategies into their work. To fully comply with all mandatory and StC compulsory (job role specific) training requirements To act in accordance with workplace legislation/requirements including Health and Safety, Equality and Diversity and Data Protection. To share and model St. Christopher s values and expected behaviours at all times. To participate in all employee engagement activities including team, departmental or other staff meetings as required and to contribute to St. Christopher s annual staff survey. To maintain professional registrations (where applicable) and to keep up to date with mandatory training and other training requirements within own area of specialism/responsibility. 3 Post-graduate teaching qualification Knowledge and Experience Essential Desirable Substantial post-registration experience of working in a palliative care setting Knowledge of the principles underpinning palliative care nursing practice Knowledge of the current challenges of delivering palliative care nursing in and across all settings Experience of delivering evidence-based education and training to all levels of practitioner Experience of delivering formal classroom education Skills and Competencies Essential Desirable Evidence of clinical competence to advanced level Able to set relevant learning objectives and design an effective training programme for practitioners at any level Advanced interpersonal communication skills Fully IT literate Able to utilise learning technology effectively Personal Attributes Essential Desirable Ability to work both autonomously and effectively within a team Able to manage time and prioritise work effectively Flexible and able to adapt teaching to meet the needs of the learners Able to work effectively under pressure and to deadlines Willing to learn new skills especially in the use of new and developing learning technologies Ability to balance and manage demands and priorities of both employer organisations LECTURER PRACTITIONER August
