Gain knowledge about how to document and report incidents of unsafe practice. 2 Licensure Impacts Our Affiliate Licensure affects our members, neighbors and community: Safety and protection of the public Requiring minimum standards and qualifications Access to quality health care State oversight and regulation Coverage 4 Ethics Everyone s Responsibility Academy is committed to public safety Upholding ethics and standards of the profession is everyone s responsibility RDs agree to abide by the code of ethics during registration process 5 Public Safety is Everyone s Responsibility If You See Something Say Something Code of Ethics, Principle #2 The dietetics practitioner considers the health, safety, and welfare of the public at all times. The dietetics practitioner will report inappropriate behavior or treatment of a client by another dietetics practitioner or other professionals. 5 Documentation Reports should be specific in nature. The individual filing the report must have directly observed the action. All reports should include specific documentation: Name of individual who was impacted by the unsafe practice Name, qualifications and credentials of individual who provided the nutrition services Details of health status both before and after services provided 13 Member Impact & Advocacy For the public Upholds licensure statutes Enhances public health & safety Ensures access to quality health care For the profession Increased opportunities Increased professional recognition Right person for the job Fair marketplace 14 Everyone s Responsibility: Advocate for your profession! Building effective relationships is key! Offer to participate in meetings with legislators Provide Education about the value of RDNs Ensure the protection of the public 15 5
