2 NOISE FROM MAINTENANCE Hello from the Maintenance Department! Well it s here, that white stuff. Seems like it should wait until the first official day of winter which the calendar says is December 21st! The Hazel Findlay Fighters, the Relay for Life Team for our facility will once again be participating on May 10th and 11th! Please stay tuned to our Facebook page and our website, hazelfindlay.com for upcoming fundraisers and events! Maintenance will continue doing their part for plowing, cleaning and salting. Please do your part by having proper footwear, clothing and most of all, be careful on the ice! Salt is not always effective on ice and does not always make its way under the vehicles, so please be careful getting in and out of your vehicle. Here are some areas of concern from the Fire/State Agency: #1 The fire Marshal rule will not allow extension cords or multi raceways (plugs) in resident s rooms. #2 The Fire Marshal rule says that walls in resident rooms can only have up to 40% of wall coverings. #3 The Fire Marshal rule says that pluggable devices that produce heat or humidity are not allowed. Because of #3 Hazel Findlay has humidifying systems that work with our heating, we do our best to keep them up and going during the heating season. A reminder that when any appliance type item (pluggable) is brought into the facility it needs to be approved by the Maintenance department. If after-hours or on the weekends let any nurse know and they will send us a work order to have the item checked. Merry Christmas! John Johnson Need a place to hold your family Christmas party? The Clinton Commons has several rooms available for reservation. Catering is also available! Please call Sue Strahle with any questions! Maintenance Director
3 Success Stories from Therapy I am about to leave Hazel Findlay Rehab after two weeks of fun! I say fun because that is just what it was. The girls and Erick made working out something to look forward to. Cooking was great because I think they learned from me as well. My room and actually the whole facility is so CLEAN. That was what impressed me the most. I always look in corners and no dust or dirt! I will miss the whole staff, nurses included, so kind and caring! I would highly recommend H.I.F.C.M. Sincerely, Rosalie Hanson Sauders An Event So Good It s Scary was once again a success with hundreds of trick-or-treaters filling our hallways! The residents loved seeing all the kids in costume! Thank you to everyone who donated candy and special thank you to the staff of Cedar Creek who donated candy for the event! I have had therapy in other places but here at Hazel Findlay is the best of all! The therapists here are kind and know their jobs well. When I first came here I couldn t put my foot on the floor because of hip pain, now I m walking and feeling good. I truly enjoy working with the therapists. The atmosphere is pleasant but successful. They have really helped me a lot. The staff is great too! Barbara Hendry The winners of the costume contest! While the boss was out, we had two replacements!
4 Antibiotic Awareness: Have you heard about antibiotic stewardship? It s a set of actions dedicated to improve the use of antibiotics. This is important because inappropriate use of antibiotics leads to problems such as resistant bacteria (so-called Superbugs ) that are difficult to treat or even completely untreatable and diarrheal illness called Clostridium Difficile, or C. Diff. Reserving antibiotics for specific infections will help them be more effective in fighting infections. Sometimes it is necessary to use antibiotics such as when a person is ill with a bacterial illness like pneumonia. They can be harmful, however, when their use is not warranted. A person with a viral illness like Influenza or some bronchitis infections will not benefit from antibiotics. It can be tempting to request an antibiotic when we or our loved ones are sick, but it is not always the answer. Antibiotic use has to be carefully considered before being used. At Hazel I. Findlay Country Manor, we care about the health and well-being of our residents. So we are committed to making sure that antibiotics are only used at the right time, at the right dosage, and for the right amount of time. If you have any questions about antibiotic use or other infection prevention and control topics, or would like to suggest a topic for future newsletters, please feel free to contact me. Thank you! Amy P.S. Wash your hands it s the best way to prevent the spread of infection. Amy Huff, R.N. Infection Preventionist (989) ext a.huff@hifcm.net For more information, check out the CDC webpage at cdc.gov WASH YOUR HANDS!
