1 Director s Speaking Policy Annual Meeting Director and Speaker Policies Directors are required to speak in the program they are directing. In some cases, directors may be able to waive this requirement by receive prior approval from AAN staff. Directors directing more than one two hour block of a multi part program (such as: Myelopathies I and Myelopathies II) are required to speak in one of the segments of the multipart program, but are not required to speak in the additional segment(s) of the multi part program. Instead, the director may substitute an additional speaker for himself/herself in that segment. Maximum Speaker Policy Each program will feature a director plus the maximum program faculty based upon the chart below. Any exceptions to the maximum number of program faculty will require prior approval by the Conference Subcommittee. Do not invite additional speakers prior to approval. If you believe your program requires a non Academy member speaker, please complete your request when identifying your speakers in the Academy Presenter Portal. All non member speaker requests must include a persuasive explanation as to how the non AAN member participation is essential to the program s success. Each request will be reviewed on a case by case basis. All non member speakers will be required to comply with the established deadlines. The Conference Subcommittee must approve all non member speakers prior to invitation. Non member speaker requests must be approved on an annual basis, regardless of whether the program was offered the year prior and whether or not the requested speaker spoke in the prior year s course.

2 Director and Speaker Benefits All directors and faculty will receive waived meeting registration. Additionally, honorarium will be issued as dictated by the chart below. Directors and faculty are required to provide program materials by the deadlines as a condition of receiving the full honorarium (see Program Material Requirement). Non AAN members who are neurologists (have a board certification in neurology) will not be reimbursed for hotel or travel costs but will receive an honorarium. Non AAN members who are non neurologists will be reimbursed for hotel and travel costs in addition to receiving an honorarium and waived registration. These arrangements must be made at least 21 days prior to flight times. If non AAN member non neurologists choose to book their own travel, they will be subject to receive reimbursement for travel costs as determined by the AAN travel agency s 21 day report or the actual cost of the ticket, whichever is less. In the unlikely event that a program is cancelled, travel to the meeting will not be reimbursed. ** Housing: AAN will provide up to two nights hotel stay. All approved non AAN member non neurologist faculty members must book their hotel room through the AAN. If non AAN member non neurologists choose to book their own hotel and the room rate exceeds the rate of AAN block of hotels, they will be reimbursed at the AAN room rate. *** Per Diem: The reimbursement will cover items such as mileage, parking, and meal expenses, excluding car rental. An expense form will be sent to you closer to the meeting. Original receipts for items over $25.00 will need to be submitted within 30 days of the last day of the meeting for reimbursement. Any deviation from standard AAN reimbursement policies will not be reimbursed. Conflict of Interest All presenters, authors, and co authors of educational and scientific presentations and any accompanying written materials must complete the AAN Disclosure Statement. The AAN also requires

3 that you disclose this information to the audience before or during the presentation. Full disclosure is an ACCME requirement to which the AAN must adhere. The intent of the AAN disclosure policy is not to prevent a presenter, author, or co author with a significant financial or other relationship from making a presentation, but rather to provide participants with information on which to determine if the presenter s, author s, or co author s interests or relationships may influence the data and their interpretation. Your disclosure should cover any commercial financial relationship or other relationship that you or your immediate family has had in the past year, irrespective of the topic of your presentation. The existence of any relationship(s) will be acknowledged in the program material. ACCME standards for commercial support guidelines required the AAN to identify and resolve any potential conflicts of interest a speaker may have prior to presentation. All speaker disclosures will be reviewed by an AAN Committee for potential conflict of interest. If a potential conflict is identified, speakers will be notified and required to submit their slides and/or text syllabus for further review. Identified conflicts must be resolved prior to presentation. Industry Interaction Guidelines to govern the interaction between Annual Meeting speakers (including directors, faculty, cochairs, and abstract authors) and industry (any entity producing, marketing, re selling, or distributing health care goods or services consumed by, or used on, patients) and their third party representatives For AAN speakers: Directors are responsible for selecting speakers without influence from industry. Content creators are responsible for creating program content without influence from industry. For industry employees and/or their third party representatives: Industry employees cannot be AAN award recipients. Industry employees cannot serve as a course director. Industry employees cannot serve on CME content creating committees (including the Meeting Management Committee, Science Committee, Education Committee, Conference Subcommittee, Abstract Reviewers and Topic Workgroups). Industry employees cannot serve as plenary session speakers. Persons, exhibitors, companies, or organizations must not display or demonstrate products, processes, or services; solicit orders; or distribute advertising materials anywhere in the exposition facility (outside of the Exhibit Hall) or in any hotel contracted by the AAN. This includes all programming areas (such as courses, poster and platform sessions, experiential learning areas, and AAN associated events). The AAN does not allow industry promotion/advertising within 125 yards of the Convention Center or the Headquarters Hotel(s). Industry employees are permitted to be abstract authors. Industry employees may serve as course faculty, provided that the content of their talk is limited to basic science research (e.g., pre clinical research, drug discovery) or the processes/methodologies of research, themselves unrelated to a specific disease or compound/drug.

4 In instances where a company may be providing support for an Annual Meeting program: Industry supporters and/or their third party representatives cannot create or influence content for education and scientific presentations. Industry supporters and/or their third party representatives cannot supplement faculty travel expenses. Industry supporters and/or their third party representatives cannot approach education and scientific program faculty concerning conference reports or other program summaries. Industry supporters and/or their third party representatives cannot create any promotional materials (print, digital, social media, or otherwise) in relation to AAN education and/or science programs, including courses, posters and platform sessions, experiential learning areas, and AAN associated events. Syllabi and Slides Program materials (slides and/or text syllabus) are required to be submitted by each director and faculty member by the deadlines in accordance with AAN guidelines. In some cases, directors and faculty may be able to waive the program materials requirement by receiving prior approval from AAN staff. Late submissions of program materials will result in a 50% reduction of the program honoraria. Nonsubmitting speakers are also subject to sanctions, including not being permitted to teach at future AAN annual meetings. Copyright Faculty members must comply with copyright law when preparing the program materials. Before an author includes any third party s copyright protected material in his/her materials, he/she must first obtain permission to do so. Information about copyright law is available at the United States Copyright Office website, The Academy requests that each author assign his/her copyright rights in the syllabus to the Academy. Owning the copyright rights in a syllabus helps the Academy market the syllabus for the benefit of all Academy members. Despite this transfer of rights, a syllabus author retains the right to use excerpts from the syllabus for noncommercial, educational purposes. The Academy also requests that each speaker grant the Academy a royalty free license to reproduce his/her slides. Speakers will be asked to grant the Academy the right to make the slides available to all Annual Meeting attendees. Speakers have the right to withhold certain or all slides from the attendee version based on their copyright authorization. Unlabeled Use of Product The AAN Annual Meeting may include presentations on drugs or devices, or uses of drugs or devices that may not have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or have been approved by the FDA for specific uses only. The FDA has stated that it is the responsibility of the physician to determine the FDA clearance status of each drug or device he or she wishes to use in clinical practice.

5 The AAN is committed to the free exchange of medical education. Inclusion of any presentation in this program, including presentations of off label uses, does not imply an endorsement by AAN of the uses, products or techniques presented. Additional Academy Policies and Information Practice Guidelines The Academy requests that when developing your programs content you review existing AAN clinical practice guidelines. It is important that information presented be consistent with the AAN s guidelines or that speakers should disclose when the information is not consistent. CME CREDIT The American Academy of Neurology is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Programs that meet the definition of CME will be considered for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit TM. In adherence with AMA guidelines, directors and faculty will not receive AMA PRA Category 1 Credit for the actual time of their presentation. Faculty will receive CME credit for observation of fellow faculty member presentations. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. CANCELLED PROGRAMS Prior to the Annual Meeting, AAN staff will review enrollment figures and determine the need to cancel a program. In the unlikely event a program is canceled, AAN staff will immediately notify the director and speakers. Travel expenses will not be reimbursed.
