NELFT Staff and Patient Profiles 2. Staff Breakdown by Age Corpoate % 28 MHS % NELCS % SWECS % Up to and over The percentage of staff employed across the 4 business units by age shows that there are similar patterns across all of the units. The majority of staff are in the 46- age range, with the fewest staff being 66 and over. The number of staff in MHS within the 36-4 age group is significantly higher than in corporate services (by 7%) and is 4% higher than in the other business units. 2. Staff Breakdown by Ethnicity White Mixed Asian Black Other Ethnic Not Stated Group Corp% MHS% NELCS% SWECS% The majority of staff across all the business units are White. SWECS has the highest percentage of white staff (at 86%) and this contrasts MHS which has the lowest percentage, at 3%. NELCS has 6% white staff and corporate services have 73%. The largest of the minority ethnic groups is the black group which comprises 22% of MHS staff, 9% of NELCS and 7% of corporate and SWECS respectively. The second largest minority ethnic group is the Asian group that represents 4% of MHS staff, % of corporate, 9% of NELCS and 4% of SWECS. The other ethnic groups category also shows a higher percentage of staff in MHS than in any of the other business units. The percentage of staff with mixed ethnicity does not vary significantly across the business units. 6% of staff in corporate services have not stated their ethnicity, compared to 4% in MHS, 3% in NELCS and % in SWECS.

3. Staff Breakdown by Gender Corporate % MHS % MHS NELCS % SWECS % Females Males There is a higher percentage of females in all business units, with NELCS and SWECS having the highest percentages (of 92 and 9% respectively). Corporate has 72% females and MHS has the lowest percentage of females, at 69%. Corporate and MHS employ more males. 4. Staff Breakdown by Disability Corporate % MHS % NELCS % SWECS % No Yes Across all business units only % of staff have described themselves as having a disability. This seems to be a very low percentage when compared to UK averages of approximately 6% of the working age population.. Staff Breakdown by Marital Status Civil Partnership Divorced Legally Separated Married Single Unknown Widowed Corporate % MHS % NELCS % SWECS %

There are no significant differences in marital status across the business units, though there are gaps in the data where marital status is unknown. 6. Staff Breakdown by Religion Atheism Buddhism Christianity Hinduism I do not wish to disclose 3 3 Corportate MHS NELCS SWECS Islam Judaism Other Sikhism A significantly high percentage of staff do not wish to disclose their religion including 62% in NELCS, % in MHS, 48% in corporate and 34% in SWECS. The majority of staff who have indicated a religion defined themselves as Christian followed by Atheists as the second largest group. 7. Staff Breakdown by Sexual Orientation Bisexual Gay Heterosexual I do not wish to disclose Lesbian Corp% MHS% NELCS% SWECS% (Currently NHS Jobs does not collect information on: Transgender & Pregnancy/Maternity Leave) A significant number of staff do not wish to disclose their sexual orientation, including 66% at NELCS, 49% at MHS, 4% at corporate and 39% at SWECS. The majority of staff have defined themselves as heterosexual, with 6% at SWECS, 3% in corporate, 49% in MHS and 34% in NELCS. % of staff in corporate and in MHS have defined themselves as gay and % of staff in corporate have defined themselves as lesbian. 3

Number of Applications 8. Number of Applications by Age Up to and over MHS NELCS SWECS The majority of applicants at MHS, NELCS and SWECS are in the 26-3 age. The second largest number of applicants are in the 36-4 age range followed by the under 2s and then the 46- age range. The lowest number of applicants is in the 6-6 age range with no applicants that are 6 and over. 9. Applications by Ethnicity White Mixed Asian or Asian British Black or Black British Any Other Ethnic Group Not Stated MHS NELCS SWECS The majority of applicants are White with 6% in SWECS, 4% in NELCS and 36% in MHS. This compares to 9% Black or Black British and % Asian or Asian British in SWECS. There are 32% Black or Black British and % Asian or Asian British applicants in MHS. There are 37% black or Black British and 2% Asian or Asian British applicants in MHS Between 2 and 3% of applicants define themselves as mixed or from any other ethnic group and % do not state their ethnicity. 4

. Number of Applicants by Gender MHS NELCs SWECS Female Male Undisclosed The majority of applicants are female. MHS has the highest number of male applicants (32%) and this compares to 23% in NELCS and 2% of male applicants in SWECS. When compared to the gender profile of staff (in graph 3), the number of applicants in MHS is reflected in the staff profile, however the number of applicants in NELCS is 2% compared to 8% of male staff, in SWECS the 2% male applicants compares to 9% of male staff. These figures indicate that there are males applicants who are applying to work in SWECS and NELCS but further information is required (probably an audit) to explore what jobs they are applying for and whether they are being shortlisted and interviewed.. Applicants by Disability MHS NELCS SWECs No Yes (4%) The number of applicants with a disability is between 3-4% for the 3 business units. This compares to % of staff describing themselves as having a disability (graph 4). Both the number of applicants and the number of staff are very low. This is an area where we need to do some work to increase the number of people with disabilities in our workforce

2. Applicants by Religion Atheism Buddhism Christianity Hinduism I do not wish to disclose Islam Jainism Judaism Other Sikhism MHS % NELCS % SWECS % Job applications are received from all the major faiths. Christians are the largest group of applicants. When compared to the staff profile (graph 6), there are far more staff than applicants who do not wish to disclose their religion or belief. 3. Applicants by Sexual Orientation Bisexual Gay Heterosexual I do not wish to disclose MHS % NELCS % SWECS % Lesbian Sexual Orientation Total Bisexual 269 Gay 2 Heterosexual 2 I do not wish to disclose my sexual orientation 66 Lesbian 8 Grand Total 2348 The majority of applicants disclose their sexual orientation, with over 9% declaring themselves as heterosexual. % of applicants to each of the business units declare themselves as bisexual compared to no staff declaring themselves as bisexual (graph 7). % of gay applicants to MHS is reflected in the % of gay staff in post. Overall far more staff in post do not declare their sexual orientation (between 39-66% across the business units) than applicants (6-8% 6

Starters and Leavers by Ethnicity Starters by Ethnicity White Mixed Asian Black Chinese Other Ethnic Group MHS % NELCS% SWECS% Not Stated Leavers by Ethnicity White Mixed Asian Black Chinese Other Ethnic Group Not Stated MHS% NELCS % SWECS % In MHS business unit and NELCS, the proportion of starters and leaves for all ethnic groups is consistent, with a small percentage higher for leavers than starters. In SWECS, there is a higher proportion of leavers for Black, Mixed, other ethnic groups and not stated groups for leavers than for starters. 7

TRAINING 8. Training attended by Ethnicity White Asian Black Chinese Mixed Not known background Staff Profile % Attendance % White Asian Black Chinese Mixed Not known White Asian Black Chinese background Mixed background Not known The overall percentage of attendance on training programme in terms of ethnicity is broadly consistent with the representation of the workforce, with a slight overrepresentation for Black groups. This is consistent with the previous MHS annual workforce reports, however, this has not been the case for NELCS or SWECS business unit, which have shown an underrepresentation of BME groups in previous years.

The highest percentages of medical and dental staff are Asian. This percentage is higher than in the local population. Similarly the percentage of Asian consultants is greater 2

than the percentage of Asians in the local population. In bands 2 to 8 there is a similar percentage of Asian staff. The highest percentage of B lack staff are in band and comprise27% of that band, followed by % of band 6, 6% of band 7 and 9% of band 8. 9% of band 2 staff are Black and this number reduces to % of band 3 and 8% of band Corporate Services GENDER PAY GAP Band 2 Band 3 Band 4 Band Band 6 Band 7 Band 8 Band 9 Corporate Males Corporate Females The pay of male and female staff is not shown to be significantly different, and the number of staff in band 9 is too small to draw any conclusions. 7. 15 HARASSMENT/BULLYING AND DISCIPLINARY CASES. Harassment and bullying cases by Gender MHS NELCS SWECS Males Females The number of cases recorded are too small to make any meaningful analysis, however, raises the issue as to whether cases of bullying and harassment are reported. 2. 16 23. Disciplinary Cases by Age % 2-3 % 36-4 % 46- % 6-6 % The Trust had 4 disciplinary cases, of which 32% were of those aged between 36 4, this correlates with the staff profile. 24. 17 NELFT PATIENT PROFILES MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES 2. Age Profile of Service Users The majority of MHS patients are in the -8 age range (7.8%) followed by the 66 + age group (7.3%), the 36-4 age group (7%) and then the 26-3 age group (6.9%). The percentage range for these groups is.9% and they represent 69% of service users. 26. MHS Service User Profile by Age, Population and Staff Patient% Average Pop% Staff Profile% The average population by age is reflected in the service user profile for the 36 to 6 age ranges. The -8 age group shows fewer service users (7.8) compared to the average population of 26.3%. There are fewer staff in the 9-2 age range (4%) than the average population (8.9%) and the percentage of service users (.7%). The percentage of staff in the 36 to 6 age ranges is significantly greater in number than the percentage of people of similar ages in the local population and of and service users. There is a significantly lower percentage of staff aged 66 plus, compared to the number of people in the same age range in the local population and when compared to service users. 7

27. MHS Service Users by Ethnicity There is ethnic diversity of service users. The number of service users who declare themselves as other is 2.2%. This group is over-represented as other ethnic group is comprised of 3.6% of the average population (see graph 23). This over-representation may indicate under-representation in some of the other ethnic groups. 28. MHS Service User Profile by Ethnicity, Population and Staff Asian Black Mixed Not Known Other White MHS Patient% Pop Aver % Staff% The black group is the only group where there is an over-representation in staff (of 22%) in comparison with 2.4% of the average population and.8% of service users. There is a significant difference between the percentage of MHS patients compared with the population average and staff percentage. 8

29. MHS Service User, Population and Staff Profile by Gender Patiient % Ave Pop% Staff% 3 Females Males The majority of service users are female (%) and the majority of staff are female (69%). The percentage of male service users is fewer than in the local population (which is 48%) and so is the percentage of male staff (3%). MHS Service User, Population and Staff profile by Disability No Yes Not Assessed Not Recorded Patient % Pop % Staff% The percentage of MHS service users with a disability is very low (.4%) compared to 7.2% in the population average. The percentage of disabilities that are not recorded is 9%. There is a need to record the disabilities of MHS service users so that NELFT can ensure that it is meeting their needs. 9

3. MHS Service User Marital Status Profile The majority of service users are single( (3.68%), married or in a civil partnership (23.7%). 32. MHS Service User Profile, Population and Staff by Religion Christian Atheist Agnostic Jewish Buddist Hindu Muslim Sikh No Religion Patient % Ave pop% Staff% Other Religion Other Belief system Blank It is difficult to ascertain whether the religion and belief profile of our patients is similar to that of both the local population and our staff, as % of our staff have a blank category for their religion or belief along with 2.4 % of our patients. The largest religious group is Christian with 44.% of patients 3% of staff and % of the local population. There may be a correlation between the percentage of staff who do not declare their religion or belief and the number of patients who do not declare their religion or belief. This needs to be explored further.

33. MHS Service User, Population and Staffing by Sexual Orientation Bisexual Gay/Lesbian Hetrosexual Other Prefer not to say Blanks Patient% Ave Pop% Staff % These figures show that we do not have effective systems in place to capture the sexual orientation of our MH service users. We do not know the sexual orientation of 94.36% of these patients, whilst.29% declare themselves as heterosexual compared to 49% of staff and 8% of the average population. 34. MHS Profile by Social Inclusion Employed Homeowner Long Term Illness No benefits Retired In Education Unemployed Voluntary work. Patient Declined info Not Recorded These figures show that we do not have effective systems in place to capture the social status of our MH service users. Whilst 27.4% of our service users are unemployed and 8% are employed, 63.9% of the information we require is not recorded. 2

NORTH EAST LONDON COMMUNITY HEALTH SERVICES (NELCS) PATIENT PROFILE 3. NELCS Patient Profile by Age HAV B & D WF Red The majority of NELCS patients are either under 8 or over 66 years of age. 36. NELCS Patients and Population by Age NELCS Pop In the under 8 and over 66 age groups, the percentage of patients is greater than the percentage of people from that age group in the local population. In all the other age groups, NELCS patients are a smaller percentage that the same age group in the local population. 22

37. NELCS Patient Profile by Age and Borough Hav Pat % Hav Pop B & D Pat % B & D Pop WF Pat % WF Pop Red Pat % Red Pop% Data for Redbridge % not indicated age group This graph shows that the majority of NELCS patients are either under 8 or 66 years plus 38. NELCS Patient Profile by Ethnicity Asian Black Mixed Not Known Other White NELCs Pop The ethnicity of 37.8% of patients is not known, and renders this information less useful than it needs to be. For example, we would expect approximately 6% of patients to be white (in line with the local population), but we only have 34.4% of patients declaring their ethnicity as white. In all of the other categories, the % of each ethnic group in the local population is greater than the percentage from each ethnic group that have declared their ethnicity. We need to have better quality information so ascertain whether NELCS patients from all ethnic groups have equal access to our services. 23

39. NELCS Patients Ethnicity Profile broken down by Borough Asian Black Mixed Not Known Other White Havering B & D WF Red When broken down by borough, we can see that Barking and Dagenham need to improve data collection for ethnicity. And that all services in NELCS need to improve data on all ethnic groups and reduce the percentage of not known categories (which currently stands at 4.%. The not known ethnic category for the other boroughs is better with Havering at 42.9%, Waltham Forest at 3.3% and Redbridge at 8.6%. However, the majority of information collected either refers to white groups or not known groups. More work need to carried out on collecting data on ethnicity so that NELCS can ascertain whether patients from all ethnic groups have equal access to its services. 4. NELCS Patients by Gender Havering B & D WF Red Female male Undisclosed Unknown Across all boroughs, NELCS has more female than male patients. There are greater differences between the genders in both Waltham Forest and Redbridge 24

4. NELCS Patients and Population by Gender NELCs Pop Female male A lower percentage of males (44.%) use NELCS services when compared to the local population (of 48% male) and a higher percentage of females (.7%) use NELCS services compared to them being 2% of the local population. 42. NELCS Patients and Population by Religion Atheism Buddism Christian Hindu Not Disclosed Islam Judaism Other Sikhism NELCs pop It is difficult to ascertain whether the religious or belief needs of service users are being met at NELCS as almost 9% of this information is not disclosed. 2

43. NELCS Patients by Marital Status cohabiting Married/Civil Partnership Not disclosed Separated Single Unknown Widowed Havering B & D WF Red As between 6-9% of this information is not collected, we are not able to draw any conclusions about whether the needs of our patients are being met regardless of any marital status, disability, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, pregnancy or social status. NB: Data not available for: Disability, Sexual Orientation, Transgender, Pregnancy & Social Inclusion 26

SOUTH WEST ESSEX COMMUNITY SERVICES PATIENT PROFILE 44. SWECS Patient Profile by Age The majority of SWECS patients are either under 8 (4%) or over 66 (9.3%). All other age groups represent between 7. and 8.9% of patients 4. SWECS Patient, Population and Staff Profile Patient % Staff % Pop % 4.3 The highest percentage of SWECS staff is in the 46- age groups, though 7.7% of patients are in this age group. % of staff are in the 4 and under age groups and this represents 24.% of patients. % of staff are 66 years plus compared to 4.3% of the local population and 9.3% of patients. % of staff are in the 9-2 age group compared to 7.6% of the local population and 8.9% of patients in that age group and 48.9% of patients between the ages of and 2. 27

46. SWECS Patient, Profile and Staff Ethnicity Profile Patients % Staff % Pop % 6% of SWECS patients have an unknown ethnic status along with a further % which are not stated. It is hard to draw any useful conclusions from this data as it is incomplete. From the local population percentages, it is evident that there is more work to be carried out to improve this data so SWECS can ascertain whether the diverse local ethnic groups have equal access to its services 47. SWECS Gender Patient, Population and Staffing Patient% Staff% Pop % 49 Female Male 43% of SWECS patients are male compared to 49% of males in the population and only % of SWECS staff being male. 9% of SWECS services are staffed by females and this seems to be an over-representation of females as they make up % of the local population and 7% of patients. 28

48. SWECS Patient Profile by Religion Christian Buddhist Hindu Jewish Muslim Sikh Other Religion Not Stated Unknown Atheism Patients % Staff% Pop% To make a useful comparison of the religion and belief patient profile with that of staff, SWECS needs to reduce the percentage of not stated and unknown categories recorded. NB: Data not available for: Disability, Sexual Orientation, Transgender, Pregnancy/Maternity 29
