1 June/July 2009 Tanny Baumann Administrator Dr. Michael Gross Medical Director Jane Gepford, RN Director of Nursing Eileen Rau DHS Board Chairperson Vickie Block Assistant Administrator Lindsey Moore Risk Manager/Human Resources Director Cathy Hackney Social Worker Spring has Sprung at ICMCF!! Just a reminder that the East Gate Garden is ready for your enjoyment. To access the garden, follow the sidewalk on the north side of the facility, and you will see the arbor designating the garden entrance. The gate to the garden is just beyond the arbor. We are so lucky to have this beautiful garden! We hope as the weather gets warmer, you will be able to enjoy its beauty too! Katherine Hilbrandt Social Worker Amy Bierschbach Admission Coordinator Bruce Ralston Environmental Services Director Michele Bonfield Activities Director, Certified Monica Bissett Adult Day Program Director/MCF Admissions Director Joann Nelson Hair Care Services Western Day 2009 This year Western Day is August 13, The rain date is August 14, 2009.
2 Nursing Home Week/National Nurse s Week The month of May was certainly busy for all of us as we celebrated National Nurses Week (May 6-12th). A very special thank you to the excellent nursing staff here at our facility. We also celebrated National Nursing Home Week (May 10-16th). The entire week was filled with fun, food, and special activities for residents and staff. Thank you to Michele Bonfield, Activity Director, and the entire activity staff for planning and organizing the special events. Emily T. teams up and celebrates a high five with her grandmother/resident June T. April L. and Raymond H. get warmed up and ready for the Frisbee golf contest. Watch out Emily and June!! 3 From the Administrator s Desk June will be even busier as construction officially begins on the kitchen project. We will display drawings and information about the kitchen project near the entrance of the facility and try to keep you updated throughout the project. The addition of a new kitchen on the south side of the building, just off of the large activity room, will provide our residents with buffet meals on all three floors. The large activity room will be unavailable beginning June 15th. With this project also comes the opportunity for some much needed enhancements to the parking lot. Al Goudreau, AIA, Goudreau & Associates, Inc. has studied our existing parking situation and met with our Parking Committee. He has made some changes to our parking area that will add several additional parking spaces as well as make the child day care drop off area much safer. For example the circle drive will become one-way traffic making it much safer for child day care drop off. Your patience during the construction will be appreciated. While construction projects can be challenging, we intend to minimize disruptions as much as possible... The project is very exciting, and the benefits will certainly be worthwhile when the kitchen is completed. Plus, several staff members were here throughout the previous remodeling and addition project and are considered "pros" with construction projects. Please let me know of any questions you may have about the project. Tanny Baumann, Administrator (989) Thank you to Al Goudreau, AIA, Architect, Goudreau & Associates, Inc. Al sent seven dozen beautiful, red roses for our residents to enjoy. Father s Day 2009 To celebrate Father s Day we will be serving ice cream and strawberries on each floor. Please join us on June 21st for this special event. June/July 2009 Page 3

5 The Safety Committee is asking for your help in our efforts to provide a safe environment for our residents, visitors, and staff. Federal and state guidelines mandate that we provide a safe environment that encourages fire and hazard prevention. Please evaluate your loved one s environment for excessive personal items that create clutter that presents a fire hazard or hinders staff ability to provide care or cleaning (such as unusable items, off-season holiday decorations, outdated/excess food). Our goal is to have safe, happy, and well cared for residents. Please conduct a complete evaluation of your loved one s room during the next few weeks and remove any unnecessary items. We look forward to being your partner to promote a safe, clean, and well kept environment. If you have questions or need assistance in making a decision, we would be more than happy to help. P.S. A note from the Social Workers With the changing season, and assessing your loved one s room, brings a great opportunity to clean out your family member s closet as well as removing seasonal clothing items, checking to make sure clothing items properly fit, labeling items and removing unwanted items.
