Nursing Recruitment, Withybush Hospital What we do Withybush General Hospital offers a wide range of opportunities across a variety of specialties, includingemergency care (Emergency & Urgent Care Centreand Adult Clinical Decisions Unit),general medicine, acute stroke unit andrehabilitation, coronary care, care of the elderly andfrailty, trauma andorthopaedics, general surgery(including colorectal surgery), theatre and recovery and adult critical care. In addition to these areas, we offerday care facilities within ourendoscopy Unit, Medical Day Unit, Haematology & Oncology Unit, Day Surgery Unit and Outpatient Department. Our nursing teams consist of health care support workers (HCSWs),registered nurses, junior and senior sisters / charge nurses, specialist nursing roles, clinical site managers, advanced nurse practitioners and senior nurse managers. All play a vital role in delivery of the best possible care to patients and their families. What we want to do in the future We are committed to delivering high quality care to everyone who accesses services at Withybush Hospital. To enable us to achieve this, we are continuously reviewing the needs of our patients and staff and are working to ensure these are met as quickly and efficiently as possible. Nursing is both a rewarding and exciting career where you can make such a difference to patients, and their families, during some very difficult times of their lives. January 2018 will see the opening of an exciting new facility, an Adult Ambulatory Care Unit, within our Emergency & Urgent Care Centre. This will ensure patients receive timely assessment and care whilst avoiding unnecessary admission to hospital. Multidisciplinary working, across acute and community settings, is so important in making this happen. Our nursing workforce is ever evolving and presents several developmental opportunities to support everyone to reach their potential within their desired areas of work. These include mentorship, practice development, clinical supervision, research, audit, management and advanced practice. 2

Why you should work for us Withybush Hospital provides acute health care to the population of Pembrokeshire in west Wales. Idyllic countryside, small towns, historical sites of interest, beautiful beaches, unmatchable coastal path scenery& walks. What s not to like? We provide an ideal work-life balance. Our commitment to the development of our nursing team is reflected in several nurses being nominated for, and successfully winning both local and national awards. These range from team of the month to individual awards, including winner of the Older Person s Commissioner Award in the RCN Nurse of the Year Awards We are proud to have such a strong team who willingly share their knowledge with others and support all health care workers within their varying roles. The opportunities for nurses within Withybush Hospital are wide ranging. We are committed to our staff and patients, ensuring both receive the care they need. From embarking upon a career in health care to advanced nursing practice... there is room for everyone. WeareabletosupportHCSWs to develop into registered nurses (if this is what they would like), nursing students, newlyregisterednursesandthosewithexperienceinarangeofspecialties. You can expect to receive an appraisal, at least annually, where your learning needs and career aspirations will be discussed with you. We will ensure that we support you to achieve your identified learning objectives, enabling you to maximise your potential. This can be through both formal and informal education, both internal and external to Hywel Dda University Health Board. We are able to support return to practice nurses (working closely with Swansea University) and return to acute care nurses. We recognise that returning to acute care following a break can be both daunting and challenging. Our return to acute care course, together with strongand understanding mentors, will help to support a return to the acute setting through a structured approach to confidence building and reorientation. 3

Weare happy to discuss a rangeofshiftandworking patterns, aswellasnew opportunities, and arekeento supporteveryone spersonal and professional development. We recognise developing our future nursing workforce as a priority, and will continue to work together to maintain our strong team approach and commitment to encouragement of future nursing leaders. We would be delighted to meet any nurses who are interested in working in Withybush Hospital. We are more than happy to arrange a tour of the hospital and informal discussion with any of our teams. We do our very best to work with our nurses to support a good work-life balance whilst ensuring patients receive the best care possible. Janice Williams Head of Nursing, Unscheduled Care, Withybush Hospital 4

Here s what some of our staff say about working here: I genuinely love my job on ward 12, where I work within a friendly and supportive team that works for my flexible worklife balance. My move to Pembrokeshire has enabled me to bring my family into a wonderful environment and my job in Withybush gives me opportunity in developing my nursing career #exciting. Rosie Bell Registered Nurse, Ward 12, Withybush Hospital I thoroughly enjoy working for Hywel Dda Health Board. I started working on the bank 4 years ago, giving me wider experience of various departments, patient care, and different skills. There are great opportunities for me to expand my knowledge and develop my skills further and our ward sisters offer continuous guidance and look out for the team s wellbeing too. Everyone is welcoming and made me feel valued and I look forward to being part of Hywel Dda team for many years to come. Kelly Roach Health Care Support Worker, Ward 7 I ve worked across the NHS over 25 years and it was when I came to west Wales for an acute care role that, as a family, we realised this was where we wanted to be. The way of life here spectacular, with work just 10 minutes from home. An ex-colleague visited to find out why I love it so much and she now also has a job in Hywel Dda. The people here are amazing; our managers are approachable and very supportive. There are no barriers in making yourself heard and I feel like I have worked here for years. Jo Dyer Senior Sister, Ward 3, Withybush Hospital 5

I ve been qualified as a nurse for 20 years now, working within Hywel Dda Health Board for 17 of those. 17 amazing years of developing my nursing knowledge in a variety of different areas, the hospital, emergency and acute medical care, general practice, sexual health, out of hours, substance misuse, specialising in a few along the way which has enabled further education. Nursing is about variety, development, change and progression, the health board has invested in me with the time to do this and because of this I feel that Hywel Dda is a wonderful place to work. Rachael Thomas Sister, Ward 7, Withybush Hospital For further information about recruitment opportunities, please contact: Tina Coleman-Recruitment Campaign Specialist tina.coleman@wales.nhs.uk 6
