1 ICOEH 2019 Pre-Conference Workshop Preventing Silicosis & TB: A Multi-Professional Approach February 2019 at New Delhi, India Hosted by: Department of Community Medicine, Lady Harding Medical College & Vardhman Mahavir Medical College, AOEH and OHS-MCS Organised by: Supported by: Facilitators: Scientific Committee on Occupational Health in Small Scale enterprises and the Informal Sector (SCOHSSEIS) of International Commission of Occupational Health (ICOH) Scientific Committees on Mine Occupational Safety and Health (MinOSH) and Respiratory Disease (SCRD) (Australia), (India), I.Naik (S Africa) INTRODUCTION: Exposure to silica dust causes the lung disease silicosis which increases the risk for tuberculosis (TB). ICOH has called for a concerted global effort to prevent TB by reducing exposure to silica dust among workers in high-risk occupations. This Workshop is a multi-disciplinary initiative to promote practical dust controls in the workplace and to build capability to better deliver services including early diagnosis and treatment of affected workers. AIMS: To bring together professionals from the fields of occupational medicine, public health and industrial hygiene to develop strategies to prevent silicosis and TB through exposure control in the workplace and build capacity among those responsible for early detection, diagnosis and treatment TARGETED PARTICIPANTS: Occupational health professionals, medical students, public health practitioners, public sector agencies, academia and NGOs involved in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of silicosis and TB.
