3 Overview This symposium offers physicians, nurses, pre-hospital providers and other healthcare team members the latest guidelines for pediatric practice through patient-centered presentations. Learner outcomes are to expand your knowledge of pertinent clinical conditions through evidence- and case-based presentations and identify available resources for a variety of community and healthcare settings. Continuing Education A certificate of attendance will be available at the end of the symposium upon completion of the online evaluation. Claim only those hours you attend. Medical Children s Hospital Colorado is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Children s Hospital Colorado designates this live activity for a maximum of 13.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s). 4 Objectives Review focused assessment and systematic approach techniques for pediatric patients. Discuss typical child and adolescent development in caring for hospitalized children of different ages. Identify the common injuries that cause compartment syndrome. Discuss the spectrum of pediatric traumatic brain injuries. Identify common injuries sustained in extreme sporting events and frequent high energy mechanisms of injuries. Define appropriate return-to-play guidelines for post-traumatic brain injury with concussion. Construct a model for the assessment and treatment of a pediatric patient experiencing seizure activity. Determine risks and benefits of various modes of transportation. Recognize injury patterns of ski and snowboarding trauma in children. Describe the unique clinical presentations and pathophysiology of environmental injuries. Differentiate the presentation of abusive vs. accidental burn injuries and their treatment. Describe general principles and application of non-invasive ventilation. Differentiate between types and causes of abdominal pain in children. Identify the need for providers to image gently in pediatrics. Identify presenting signs/symptoms of shock in the pediatric population.
