1 K A Monthly Publication for Kaweah Delta Employees July 2018 KAWEAH DELTA EMERGENCY DEPT. CONSTRUCTION UPDATES As we work to nearly double the size of our Emergency Department by Summer 2020, there will be changes around our downtown campus. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you or your family members visiting the medical center. A rendered image of what our parking lot will look like when construction is complete in patients. There will be a small 20-minute patient drop-off area. WHAT S NEW: You will only be able to enter our Mineral King Parking Lot on Mineral King Avenue. Parking will be reduced during construction. The lot will only be open to emergency and labor and delivery OPTIONS TO HELP YOU PARK We have worked with the City to offer more all-day parking in the parking structures directly across the street from the hospital. VALET PARKING Valet parking is available at our main entrance off Mineral King Avenue. It is FREE, fast and convenient. Additionally, we have: - Extended hours (9 AM to 9 PM on weekdays, 11 AM to 7 PM on weekends) - More hands to help - Double the number of valet parking spots - Secure parking either adjacent to or within our valet s line of sight. 3 SERVICE EXCELLENCE AWARD EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH CHRISTY KENNEDY RN, ASC (16 YEARS) Nominated by Maria Howell I have worked with Christy Kennedy for many years and her passionate commitment to patients, patient families and coworkers is exemplary. She has helped direct our ASC team throughout our remodel transition, as we move floors and manage patients through their surgical process. Furthermore, she is calm and competent in a critical situation. She has been a good friend and coworker for many years, for this I am very thankful! Christy holds strong behavioral standards of performance, which include compassionate service by being kind and caring to all patients and family, and she is respectful and considerate of coworkers and patients privacy, and has communication skills that are complete and make her a thorough communicator. Additionally, she proves to have a strong commitment to colleagues by checking in on her days off to be sure we are staffed. She often comes in extra to help. 5 MEET New Ray Renyck Director of Food & Nutrition Services Frances Carrera Director of Revenue Cycle Patient Financial Services LEADERS Chris Patty Director of Research Office of Research Danielle Grimaldi Nurse Manager Pediatrics Update on TRMC by Gary Herbst Change is upon us. If you have not heard, Tulare Regional Medical Center (TRMC) chose Adventist Health to exclusively negotiate with as an affiliation partner at its Board meeting on June 27. We had responded to TRMC s invitation and welcomed the opportunity to meet with their ad-hoc committee to discuss the contents of our letter and answer questions, but had not heard back from TRMC leaders as to whether committee members wanted to meet with us. Having not had the time to conduct the necessary due diligence, we did not have a formal proposal to present to the TRMC Board of Directors that night. That said, Kaweah Delta still remains interested in a potential future affiliation with TRMC under the right terms, conditions and timeframe. In the meantime, we continue to support the reopening of TRMC. Kris Daugherty Patient Food Services Manager Food & Nutrition Communi-K 5

6 HOSPICE ANNOUNCES GOOD GRIEF CAMP 2018 By Kent Mishler, Director of Chaplain Services Kaweah Delta Hospice is excited to announce the 2nd Annual Good Grief Camp will be on Saturday, September 15 at the Visalia Nazarene Church. This exciting day is for children who have experienced the death of a significant person in their life. In 2017, at our very first camp (the only grief camp in the area), we served nearly 30 children and their families. There were over 40 volunteers helping throughout the day and many were from our Kaweah Delta family. The camp is provided at no cost to families because of the generosity of our community. No One Dies Alone A reminder... We offer volunteers who are willing to sit with patients who are dying and have no family present during their final hours. Research shows that being along during death is one of the top fears people have. In an effort to assure that no one dies alone, our NODA team of highly-trained volunteers is willing to be with patients regardless of their economic status, spiritual beliefs, or lifestyle. To utilize the NODA team, simply contact the House Supervisor or the NODA Coordinator when the situation is evaluated, and the team will be activated to support the care provided by the clinical team. If you know of a child between kindergarten and 6th grade who would benefit from Good Grief Camp, watch the District Daily for more information. We will have fliers available shortly. In addition, if you are interested in being a volunteer at Good Grief Camp, some or all of the day, please contact Deedy Smith, Hospice Bereavement Coordinator at gsmith@kdhcd.org. Communi-K 6

7 HR Spotlight NEW Pay for Performance We are excited to announce a revised Performance Evaluation form effective st July 1. Important Changes: Five levels with higher merit percentages. Behavioral Standards of Performance with clear criteria Focus on growth and development Many employees asked us to look at Pay for Performance in the last Employee Engagement Survey; the Executive Team and Board of Directors wholeheartedly is in support! One way Kaweah Delta makes an investment in our employees each year is through merit increases. In fact, merits alone add $7 million in wage increases each year. This new program will add another $2 million. We believe employees are our most important asset! Did you know what California Minimum Wage is increasing to? 2018 = $ = $ = $ = $ = $15 Effective July 1, 2018: Five Levels of performance on each accountability and overall scoring Exceptional 4% Exceeds 3% Successful 2.5% Needs Improvement 1% Unacceptable 0% Weighted Sections: Job duties based on correct and up-to-date job descriptions (50%) Kaweah Care Behavioral Standards of Performance (30%) Attendance and Reliability (20%) Kaweah Care Behavioral Standards of Performance: Compassionate Service Respect Communication Safety Personal Ownership Privacy Professional Image Commitment to Colleagues For More Information Call Elva Robles at x2645 or Linda Hansen at x2583
