1 APRIL 25, 2016 Tell us something good WOMEN & NEWBORN CARE DEPARTMENT. Submitted by: Darlene Smith, Interim OB Director Wow! What an amazing group of folks I get to work with daily! The Women and Newborn Care Department, formerly known as Obstetrics or OB, is comprised of forty individuals who work diligently to ensure the families in our community have a safe and memorable childbirth experience. We have three units in our department. They are: Labor and Delivery, Mother- Baby (formally known as Post-Partum and Newborn Nursery), and Special Care. We are privileged to provide care to approximately 1200 mothers and babies each year. Each time you hear the beautiful lullaby tune, you know a new sweet life has been bought into the world. Staff in our department are blessed to work in the happiest department at TJ! We will begin our new model of care, Mother-Baby and Special Care, on June 5. After the mother gives birth and has time to spend with dad and family, mother and baby will be transferred to a Mother-Baby Suite. The Women & Newborn Care Team Members mother and baby will only be separated if the baby requires special monitoring or a procedure. If that occurs, the baby will be transferred to the Special Care Unit. Upon transfer to Mother-Baby, one nurse will care for mother and baby in the comfort and convenience of their suite. Mother-Baby care enables families to have time to experience more special moments together, because the baby won t have to leave the room for nursing care or physician exams. The baby will remain at mom s bedside as mom and dad adjust to the newest member of their family. This type of care promotes stronger family bonding and attachment. Currently, the Women and Newborn Care Department is undergoing a facelift. Each room in the Mother-Baby area is being painted a soft green color, and the rooms will be accented with a beautiful new sofa sleeper, two chairs, plus a newly upholstered glider. We would love to have you as our guest, even if you are not having a baby! Drop by to see the improvements we are making in the new Women and Newborn Care Department.

2 Volunteer Services APPRECIATION CELEBRATION Volunteer Appreciation Month is celebrated in April; T.J. Regional Health is honored to have a group of behindthe-scenes heroes who volunteer their time and talents to support staff, patients, and departments. The Volunteer Services team was established in 2005, and our mission is to place volunteers in the "heart" of healthcare. This front-line approach bridges the healthcare gap for these volunteers, allowing them to experience a different healthcare perspective. Combined, this group has over 60 volunteer service years spent on our campuses. What a blessing they are to many! When you see these volunteers, wish them a Happy Volunteer Appreciation Month!
