Allow students through lecture and experiential learning to evaluate and develop evidence-based health promotion and disease prevention strategies for adult patients. Teach the students to holistically compare and contrast pharmacologic & non-pharmacologic treatment, patient counseling, screening and followup management of patients presenting to behavioral medicine/ psychiatric settings. Teach students to compare, contrast and recommend referral services for patients presenting to behavioral medicine/ psychiatric settings. Spring Semester Instructor- Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) USA Provide training for the 8 hour MHFA certification course (adult, youth, and veteran courses) Implement different training strategies to relate material to different learning styles and professional populations Market, promote, and advocate MHFA to community and potential clients Maintain instructor accreditation through the National Council for Behavioral Health

4 Master Instructor Blue Ridge Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) Work with both mental health professionals and local law enforcement officers in advocating and teaching clinical mental health to law enforcement officers from Middle River Regional Jail, Augusta County, Staunton, Waynesboro Cities and surrounding jurisdictions. Provide a 40 hour certification program that is DCJS accredited for law enforcement officers. Provide a 20 hour certification program that is DCJS accredited for EOC dispatchers and 911 operators. Instruct student officers on topics such as clinical states, co-occurring diagnoses, suicide awareness, personality disorders, substance abuse, mental health/ substance use in children and adolescents, mental health civil law, intellectual disabilities/ developmental delays, multi-cultural awareness and crisis intervention techniques. Provide 20 hour certification program to train officers and other professionals on how to be an instructor or trainer for the Blue Ridge CIT program (i.e. Train the Trainer Training) Creator, Coordinator and Webmaster- Creator and Co-designer of a web-based clinical resource directory. Research and obtain grants and donations to cover cost of website to allow user to use free of charge. Extensive research and collaboration with a wide range of local and regional resources that can be easily assessable to professionals and individuals world wide. Consult, collaborate and coordinate with local agencies and resources in posting, providing, and maintaining up-to-date information on the website. Advertise and advocate site and resources on the site. Consulting and collaborating the design, function and implementation of future versions of E-Link with other local professionals and agencies. 5 Emergency Services/ Access & Outpatient Clinician (Valley CSB) Conduct psychosocial assessments for children and adults referred for services for symptoms and diagnoses such as adjustment disorders, major affective disorders, thought disorders, psychosis, substance abuse/ dependency, etc. Provide therapeutic intervention, crisis counseling, outpatient crisis stabilization, support and risk assessments for all populations experiencing a psychiatric and/or substance abuse emergency. Provide emergency pre-admission screenings to determine least restrictive treatment alternative and, if appropriate, petition for legal detention orders for individuals of all ages who are experiencing a psychiatric and/or substance abuse emergency who meet legal criteria. Conduct independent evaluations for civil commitment hearings at both the Commonwealth s Center for Children and Adolescents and Western State Hospital Provide ongoing individual psychotherapy for adults with mental health and/or substance use diagnoses Intensive In-Home Clinician, Crossroads Counseling Center Provided intensive in-home child and family therapy for families who were FAPT (Family Assessment Planning Team) referred by DSS.
