1 Butler Community College Health, Education and Public Services Division Jane Perkins Revised Spring 2017 Implemented Fall 2017 COURSE OUTLINE Nurse Aide Course Description AH 122 Nurse Aide. 5 hours credit. Prerequisite: A score at a predetermined level on a placement instrument. This course will enable the student to learn basic nursing skills and concepts of aging through classroom and clinical experience. The student will follow Health Occupations Credentialing (HOC) guidelines in order to prepare to take the Kansas Certified nurse aide test. Required Materials For complete material(s) information, refer to Butler-Assessed Outcomes The intention is for the student to be able to 1. Demonstrate nursing skills compatible with the job description for nurse aide. 2. Complete the State of Kansas Certified nurse aide test. Learning PACT Skills that will be developed and documented in this course Through involvement in this course, the student will develop ability in the following PACT skill area(s): Technology Skills Discipline specific technology - Through return demonstrations in the simulated laboratory and/or clinical setting, the student will demonstrate critical elements of selected nursing skills. Major Summative Assessment Task(s) These Butler-assessed Outcome(s) and Learning PACT skill(s) will be demonstrated by 1. Providing appropriate basic nursing skills and competencies care to nursing home residents. 2. Completing the State of Kansas Certified nurse aide test. Nurse aide registry Learning Activities Independent and collaborative learning activities will assist the student to achieve the intended learning outcomes. The following teaching/learning activities will guide the student to achieve course outcomes: lecture, audio-visual aids, class discussion, study guides, group activities, guest speakers, tests, demonstration, return demonstration, supervised clinical experience and other methods of evaluation at the discretion of the instructor. These activities may either be face-to-face or online. AH 122 Nurse Aide 6
7 Grade Determination The student will be graded on learning activities, exams, assessment tasks, and other methods of evaluation at the discretion of the instructor. The student must pass the clinical component of the course to earn a passing grade. The student must also be able to demonstrate competency of basic nursing skills as listed on the Kansas Nurse Aide Checklist, Part I and Part II. The student must earn a letter grade of C or higher (75%) to take the State of Kansas Certified nurse aide test. The student is required to attend or make up all classroom and clinical sessions in order to meet the State attendance requirements. AH 122 Nurse Aide 7
