1 Behavior Clinic Option Purpose of Clinic: Clinicians in Behavior Clinic provide evaluations of preschool and school age children for whom there are concerns about social emotional development, behavior, and the impact upon learning. Clinic staff includes pediatric nurses, developmental behavioral pediatricians, and clinicians from child & adolescent psychiatry. Clinicians provide consultation for new patients as well as ongoing care for families in need of more intensive services. Objectives for trainees in Behavior Clinic: 1. Discriminate between developmental variations, problems, and disorders of child behavior. 2. Identify when additional behavioral and educational services are indicated for a child and/or their family. 3. Describe how to evaluate children with ADHD, behavior problems, and/or learning problems. 4. Recognize the importance of the child's family and its role in shaping behavior. Trainees will observe the evaluation and management of behavioral and learning concerns in children. Trainees are encouraged to interact with the child during the assessment and to participate in the interview when possible. 2 Cerebral Palsy Clinic Option It is expected that trainees will spend the majority of their time with the clinic s physical therapist, developmental/behavioral pediatrician, or the clinician from their own discipline. Individual responsibilities for a given trainee will be established prior to the clinic visits and should be discussed with trainee s LEND faculty mentor. Purpose of Clinic The Cerebral Palsy Clinic is an interdisciplinary team designed to address the special medical and developmental issues of the child or adolescent with Cerebral Palsy. The goal of the clinic is to provide comprehensive assessments and follow up to address developmental, rehabilitation, growth, socialemotional, and wellness issues in this population of children and adolescents. An additional goal of the clinic is to facilitate medical and rehabilitative care for the children and adolescents through communication with their primary care physicians and other community providers. The clinic attempts to work closely with local Help Me Grow, school district, and private therapy programs to assist with referrals, equipment management, and assessment of ongoing therapy needs. 1. Describe the roles of an interdisciplinary team designed to address the medical, rehabilitation, and developmental needs of children and adolescents with CP. 2. Describe and identify appropriate specialized medical and developmental follow up care. 3. Identify additional community and educational resources for children/adlescents and their families. 3 Down Syndrome Clinic Option It is expected that trainees will spend the majority of their time with the clinic s physician. Individual responsibilities for a given trainee will be established at the beginning of the month and will progress over time with appropriate supervision. Clinic Description A family centered clinic that provides diagnostic and treatment services to children and adolescents with Down Syndrome and their families. Services may include comprehensive medical and developmental assessment with special attention to the unique medical and developmental problems sometimes experienced by children with Down Syndrome. Referral to other services are arranged as needed. Families are linked with medical, educational, social and financial supports and resources in their communities as indicated. A close working relationship with the child s primary care physician will be maintained, and a referral from that physician is recommended to facilitate insurance coverage. 1. Identify the importance of a family centered approach to the diagnosis and treatment for individuals with Down Syndrome. 2. Identify additional medical, educational, and financial supports and resources indicated for a child and their family. 3. Describe how to evaluate children and adolescents with Down Syndrome. 4. Identify unique developmental challenges for children and adolescents with Down Syndrome. 4 Interdisciplinary Feeding Evaluation Clinic Purpose of Clinic The program provides outpatient evaluation services for children with feeding difficulties requiring the services of three or more disciplines. The patient s plan of care is coordinated between disciplines at one convenient appointment 1. Observation and participation of an interdisciplinary approach to evaluating and assessing a child with feeding concerns. 2. Describe interdisciplinary roles throughout the evaluation processes. 3. Observation and evaluation of patients eating a meal or being tube fed to better understand concerns related to feeding. 4. Describe and Identify appropriate interventions and recommendations related to feeding. 5 Myelomeningocele/Spina Bifida Clinic Option It is expected that trainees will spend the majority of their time with the clinic s physician. Individual responsibilities for a given trainee will be established at the beginning of the month and will progress over time with appropriate supervision. Myelo Clinic A multi disciplinary clinic that provides diagnostic and treatment services to individuals with myelomeningocele and other spinal abnormalities. Services may include assessments by physical medicine, developmental pediatrics, orthopedics, urology, physical therapy and occupational therapy. Referrals to other specialists are made as needed. Families will also be linked with community resources 1. Observation and participation of a multi disciplinary clinic approach to diagnostic and treatment services to individuals with myelomeningocele and other spinal abnormalities. 2. Identifying assessments, characteristics and concerns related to myelomeningocele and other spinal abnormalities. 3. Identify community-based and educational resources for individuals with myelo. 6 Neonatal Follow up Clinic Option It is expected that trainees will spend the majority of their time with the clinic s physical therapist, developmental/behavioral pediatrician, or the clinician from their own discipline. Individual responsibilities for a given trainee will be established prior to the clinic visits and should be discussed with trainee s LEND faculty mentor. Purpose of Clinic The Neonatal Follow up Clinic is an interdisciplinary team designed to address the special medical and developmental issues of the premature infant or full term infant with complex medical conditions. These infants are at high risk for growth and feeding difficulties, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, retinopathy of prematurity, apnea, visual and hearing impairment, cerebral palsy, and developmental delay. While most of these children have primary care physicians, visits to the Neonatal Follow up Clinic allow for specialized medial and developmental care. An additional goal of the clinic is to facilitate medical and developmental care for the infants through communication with their primary care physicians and developmental therapists. The clinic attempts to work closely with local Help Me Grow programs to assist with referrals, eligibility determination, and assessment of ongoing therapy needs. 1. Describe the roles of an interdisciplinary team designed to address the medical and developmental needs of high risk infants. 2. Describe and identify appropriate specialized medical and developmental follow up care. 3. Identify additional community and educational resources for high risk infants and their families. 4. Identify evidence-based developmental assessments for high-risk infants. 7 Williams Syndrome Clinic Option It is expected that trainees will spend the majority of their time following a family throughout the visit as they are evaluated by all team members. Individual responsibilities will be established at the beginning of the clinic and will progress over time with appropriate supervision. Clinic Description The clinic provides a multidisciplinary approach to evaluative services for individuals with Williams Syndrome and their families. Specialized evaluation and treatment in which the focus addresses educational, medical, emotional and behavioral issues is offered. 1. Observation of and participation in an interdisciplinary approach to evaluating and assessing an individual with Williams Syndrome. 2. Describe interdisciplinary roles throughout the evaluation process. 3. Identify and describe characteristics and concerns unique to individuals with Williams Syndrome. 4. Identify and describe appropriate specialized treatment and interventions, medically and educationally.
