The Dean of the Nursing Science Programme is Professor Francesco Saverio Ambesi Impiombato (ambesi@uniud.it), who presides over the two coordinated campuses (Udine and Pordenone), located in Udine: Viale Ungheria, Udine (Italy) Tel Fax Coordinator MNS RN Stefania Zuliani stefania.zuliani@uniud.it Pordenone: Via Prasecco, 3 A Pordenone (Italy) Tel Fax: Coordinator MNS RN Roberta Grando roberta.grando@uniud.it Brief Course presentation The Nursing Curriculum, which lasts three years, is based on the principles of the Bologna Declaration and National set of rules, and provides 180 Credits (crediti formativi universitari, CFU), of which 60 CFU are dedicated to clinical training. The learning objectives are inspired by the Dublin Descriptors and provide the a) application of knowledge, b) comprehension of patient problems within nursing care domains, c) autonomous decision-making, d) communication skills, and e) self-learning skills. The Nursing Curriculum includes: General, Biomedical, Clinical, Nursing, and Human Sciences focusing on the individual, the family, and the community of all ages and within different health conditions and settings (table 1). 1

3 Clinical Training Model The clinical training is held in the hospitals of Udine and Pordenone and in Community health-care services. Clinical training is inspired by the andragogic learning model of White & Evan (1991, Figure 1), and is supervised by Didactic and Clinical Tutors. Didactical tutors are expert Registered Nurses (RN) with advanced education, usually with Masters Degrees in Nursing Science who provide full-time tutorship functions: they assure classroom and personal tutorship, organize, manage and evaluate the students clinical training experiences. Clinical tutors are expert Registered Nurses (RN) responsible for student activities with patients, equipment and devices adopted in the unit. They manage student training consistently with planned objectives, as well as organising and evaluating learning project activities. Figure 1 The clinical learning cycle adopted in the University of Udine Bachelor s Programme in Nursing Science Students must attend more than the 75% of the lessons and 100% of the clinical training activities. Annual calendar The academic year is from October 1 st to September 30 th (Table 2). Lessons and clinical training are suspended during Christmas holidays, from 24 th December to 6 th January, Easter holidays, from Holy Thursday to Tuesday, Summer holidays, from 1 st to 31 st August. In all the above-mentioned clinical settings, the Erasmus student is followed by a clinical tutor who works with the didactic tutor in order to guarantee the achievement of the learning aims. Periodical briefing and debriefing sessions are offered at the beginning, during and at the end of clinical training experience, including both the didactic and clinical tutor. For those Erasmus students speaking only English a clinical tutor who speaks in English is made available. According to the agreements between the University and the NHS care settings, aiming to assure the best training opportunities to Erasmus students, the preferred period is the Autumn semester. During the Spring period, the opportunities are reduced given the contemporary presence of nursing students and other health-care students in the clinical settings. Registration process and deadline All exchange students must be formally nominated by their home university by sent to (socrates@uniud.it). After receiving the nomination letters from sending institutions, the Informational Relations Office will send to nominated students a detailed information package with documents to be fulfilled for the registration and accommodation procedure. The deadlines for all universities to send nominations to the University of Udine International Student Service are reported on the UNIUD webpage Contacts There are two main services for management of the Erasmus programme: o The contact person at the student service area, who provides administrative support, such as training agreement programme and the documents concerning registration at the University of Udine, which must be sent to. You must also demonstrate by presenting certification your competences in clinical practice safety measures (e.g., the adoption of Individual Protection Devices, ergonomic precautions for safe patient mobilization).
