A warm welcome to all delegates at e State conference of Hospital infection society-india (HIS-I) organized by Department of Microbiology, e Gujarat Cancer and Research Institute, Ahmedabad on 7 and 8 December As for now, e Healcare Associated Infections (HAI) or infections arising as a result of admission and treatment in a hospital are one of e major causes of morbidity and mortality in hospitalized patients. e hazard extends to e staff working in hospitals and also into e community at large. is has become more important in today's changing environment, dealing wi e reats of newly emerging paogens and e widespread dissemination of old paogens. Each year more is learnt about hospital infection control as a science, yet e human input is never as important as now to keep pace wi e challenges of modern medicine and sophisticated erapeutic modalities many of which cause a signi cant increase in patient population susceptible to hospital infection. e Prevention, Control and Treatment of such infection is a concern of all heal care professionals working in a hospital including Microbiologists, Clinical Specialists from various disciplines of Medicine, Surgery and Gynaec, Hospital Administration, Nursing Staff and Nursing Administrators, CSSD Managers and Staff. About Association: e Hospital Infection Society India (HIS-I) is an Association of medical professionals wi a special interest in e prevention and control of hospital infection. It is registered wi Registrar of Societies at Delhi. Founded in 1991, e society presently has more an 1000 members. e Hospital Infection Society - India, was installed by Late Dr. Ajita Mehta from P. D. Hinduja Hospital, Mumbai who was e en President of HISI-I in Vision: Every Indian Healcare Unit has a functional infection control and prevention programme Mission Statement: Hospital Infection Society India (HIS-I) provides e essential tools, education materials & communication at unite HIS-I members and foster development of Hospital Infection Control programmes based on evidence based medicine. Objectives: Advance medical knowledge and disseminate information on e subject of Hospital Infections and eir prevention. Provide a common platform for people active in e eld of hospital infections, viz. Microbiologists, Administrators, Clinicians, Nursing Staff etc. Provide individuals and institutions wi information and assistance to form hospital Infection control programs and similar activities. Gaer and disseminate information about Hospital Infections and eir prevention in bo technical and practical aspects. Hold training courses and educational symposia, seminars on all aspects of Hospital Infections. Form liaison wi similar associations at National and International levels. Do all such ings as are incidental or conductive to e a ainment of e above objectives, or any one of em.
