The seminar will be held on November 9 th, 9:00-10:30 am. **Please bring a hard copy or electronic copy of the 2010 NCLEX-RN Detailed Test Plan for Educators, which can be found at If the 2013 NCLEX-RN Detailed Test Plan for Educators publication is available from NCSBN by the convention date, you may prefer to bring the 2013 plan. The beauty of this seminar is that you will learn to utilize the test plan whether it is the 2010 version or the 2013 version. CEU Seminar Descriptions: Understanding the Development of the NCLEX Test Plan: Every three years the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) performs an extensive survey and analysis of the NCLEX Test Plan process. Understanding the purpose of NCSBN, the NCLEX practice analysis survey, the Client Needs categories and test plan will give you insight that can be used to evaluate your curriculum. Incorporation of this NCLEX process and mindset into the instructional plan of your curriculum will enhance your student performance on the NCLEX. This continuing nursing education activity was approved by the Mississippi Nurses Foundation, Inc., an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation for 1.5 CEU s. 4

In this breakout, you will learn about the parts of the electro conduction pathways of the heart and their reflection on the EKG strip. In addition, we will perform practice with various EKG strips in order to remember the questions to ask yourself when reviewing a strip. If you learn these questions, you will know the answer to every EKG interpretation including heart blocks. 7 7 Red Cross Disaster Health and Sheltering This course provides disaster health services response content specific to Red Cross sheltering through a two-part course. Although the course is designed for nursing students, it can also be used to orient Red Cross partners (e.g., Medical Reserve Corps or public health nurses) to shelter operations in the communities where they are located. Specifically, Red Cross Disaster Health and Sheltering acquaints prelicensure nursing students with volunteering on disaster relief operations, especially in the shelter environment. After completing this course, nursing students will be able to: 1. Describe the role of the Red Cross Disaster Health Services (HS) volunteer in the disaster shelter setting. 2. Identify HS commitments as a Red Cross HS worker. 3. Describe HS disaster relief settings where volunteers may be assigned. 4. Assess disaster client needs, providing appropriate nursing care and client referral. 5. Describe possible challenges of working with the community after a disaster incident, to include strategies for providing assistance to individuals with functional and access needs. 6. Explain how HS align with public health nursing practice. 7

12 12 RUN FOR STATE OFFICE! An important aspect of this year s convention will be an election process that involves voting in new officers for the 2013 KANS State Board of Directors. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in being an active member of KANS who would like to exercise their leadership skills in a preprofessional organization. The positions for the state board are open to active members in attendance at the convention who are willing to commit to serving on the board for one year. We welcome and encourage any attending member who has the desire to serve on the state board to sign up. So, make this your time to shine! Being on the KANS state board is a great opportunity for you to build your leadership qualities in collaboration with students from KANS chapters across the state. Besides, it also looks great on your resume! Open nominations for all offices will be held on Thursday night. Don t forget there are also positions open for KNA Consultant and Faculty Consultant for faculty members interested in being involved in KANS. Let the campaigning begin! Don t miss your chance on voting during the election process; REGISTER AS a DELEGATE! The Board of Directors is elected every year at our Annual Convention and Business Meeting by your House of Delegates. Being a delegate is an imperative part of the voting process, because without delegates, we would have no votes/voters. Each school gets one delegate per five KANS members. These votes make a huge difference in making sure the person you want to be in office gets voted in. So make sure you spread the word, and register as many delegates from your school as you can.
