3 Veterans Health Administration (VHA) VHA is the largest integrated health care system in the United States, providing care at 1,243 health care facilities, including 170 VA Medical Centers and 1,063 outpatient sites of care of varying complexity (VHA outpatient clinics), serving more than 9 million enrolled Veterans each year. VHA Mission: Honor America s Veterans by providing exceptional health care that improves their health and well-being. VHA Vision: VHA will continue to be the benchmark of excellence and value in health care and benefits by providing exemplary services that are both patient centered and evidence based. This care will be delivered by engaged, collaborative teams in an integrated environment that supports learning, discovery and continuous improvement. 9 BD-STEP curriculum (version currently focused in Cancer) Introductory training and activities Annual Kick-off meeting boot camp activity managed by BD-STEP sites to introduce fellows/trainees to on-site resources and VA environment Research and operational projects 80% of time spent on research projects; 20% of time is spent on operational projects (to include rotational opportunities within the clinical environment) Regular check-ins Monthly trainee calls Monthly journal club calls Annual face-to-face meeting Annual Hackathon* End of year virtual graduation *in coordination, projected for Spring
10 FY 18 Program requirements During your year with us, we will expect you actively engage in all aspects of the BD-STEP program (to include, but not limited to the following items below): Quarterly progress reports with you VA/Academic mentor team; timely submission of progress reports to BD-STEP Director Fellow/Trainee monthly call: 2 nd Wednesday, 3:00 PM 4:30 PM EST Monthly Journal club: 3 rd Thursday, 3 PM EST Recommended trainings will be shared periodically with all fellows/trainees: VINCI happy hour : 3 rd Wednesday, 3 PM 4 PM EST BD2K sessions Seminars, lecture series and invited guest speakers For November: Opportunity to meet face-to-face with all other BD-STEP fellows and trainees November 8, 2017 at the NIH main campus after the AMIA conference (dial-in will be available for those with special travel restrictions) Journal club will be held on Thursday, November 16 th at 3PM ET 10
