MALLEE DISTRICT ABORIGINAL SERVICES (MDAS) is an organisation that has provided support, information and advice to Koori people and their families for more than 30 years, providing more than 50 essential services from our health and family services centres in Mildura, Swan Hill, Balranald and Kerang. This position is a joint appointment in partnership between Take Two Berry Street and MDAS, as part of the Aboriginal Therapeutic Home Based Care Program in the Mildura region. PRIMARY OBJECTIVES OF THE ROLE The Aboriginal Therapeutic HBC Program aims to enhance therapeutic care for Aboriginal children and young people in foster and kinship care through enhancing the capacity of care teams and staff to deliver trauma-informed therapeutic response to children and young people. According to the program guidelines, the Senior Clinician provides high quality clinical assessment which forms the basis for a therapeutic care plan to Child Protection clients referred to the program; facilitation of culturally appropriate healing programs; therapeutic leadership, training and support to program staff, carers and members of each child s therapeutic network; and secondary consultation concerning the mental health needs of the clients as required. This position will work with the Mallee District Aboriginal Therapeutic HBC Program (as detailed above), across Mildura, Swan Hill and Robinvale. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS This position is based in the Mallee district, and is located with the Take Two Mildura Region office and with MDAS. It is part of the broader Take Two Aboriginal Team, which is a statewide service based at our Eaglemont office. This role reports directly to the Clinical Team Leader Take Two Aboriginal Team who will provide line management and clinical supervision. This role also informs the Team Leader of Home Based Care Services at MDAS who will provide cultural supervision and local support. This role has no direct reports, and works with other Take Two Aboriginal Team members and MDAS staff and community.

An understanding of the complexity of the service system and the issues involved in providing services to statutory clients. Demonstrated ability to provide direct service in the clinical assessment and treatment of children, young people and families; and to comply with service delivery towards output and outcomes requirements. Strong ability to work with a culturally informed and respectful approach with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families. Comprehensive understanding of the impact of trauma, disrupted attachment, and the impact of abuse and/or neglect on a child s development and wellbeing. Ability to provide professional development, secondary consultation and advice to non-clinical staff, carers and family members working in Care Teams. Demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively and the capacity to negotiate and liaise with ACCOs. DHS, other agencies and the community. QUALIFICATIONS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS Tertiary qualification in Psychology, Social Work or related discipline such as Family therapy/child Psychotherapy. Staff must hold a valid WWCC, current drivers licence at all times and undergo a Criminal Records Check prior to employment. Subsequently, staff must report any criminal charges or court appearances. Demonstrated capacity to lead and manage in an area of challenging and complex practice. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the principles of equity, diversity and occupational health and safety. DESIRABLE Experience of working within the CQI frameworks of the Australian Council of Healthcare Standards would be an advantage. Post Graduate training is preferred. ACCOUNTABILITY ACCOUNTABILITY Program Development and Review KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES describe the key duties that will indicate success in the role. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITY SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITY Provide leadership in accordance with program guidelines for the delivery of Therapeutic Home Based Care to Aboriginal clients. In conjunction with the Clinical Team Leader and the TAKE TWO Aboriginal Team, contribute to the successful development and implementation of the Aboriginal Therapeutic Home Based Care Program. Work with the TAKE TWO leaders, the clinicians and other relevant people to identify how policy and practice can be

3 improved and implement such changes. Assist the Take Two Research and Training Managers in the collection and dissemination of learning s arising from TAKE TWO clinical practice. Service Delivery Provide assessment, secondary consultation and training concerning the psychological and emotional needs of children referred to the program to all members of each child s care team and network. Assist in the development of quality assurance and quality improvement frameworks for clinical service delivery. Provide leadership in the implementation of the Aboriginal Therapeutic Home Based Care Program including assessment procedures, needs identification, risk assessment, practice guidelines, case documentation and discharge planning. Provide regular clinical consultation and advice to Care Teams. Provide reflective practice sessions and training for foster and kinship carers. Other Maintain collaborative working relationships with Berry Street, MDAS, and regional services and supports for Child Protection clients. Assist the MDAS with the recruitment, orientation and training of appropriately skilled staff.

5 CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT 1. This position is for 76 hours per fortnight. There is no paid overtime, but any extra hours worked will be accrued as Time-in-Lieu according to the Berry Street Victoria Enterprise Agreement. 2. You will initially be employed at Mildura. You may be required to work from other Berry Street sites (on a temporary or permanent basis) as directed from time to time. 3. Terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Berry Street Victoria Enterprise Agreement, which includes above Award payments and eligibility for remuneration packaging. Salary packaging is available to full-time and 0.8 staff to a maximum value of $16,050 and a maximum value of $12,000 to all other permanent part-time staff, in line with our Salary Packaging policy. 4. The full time salary for this position is $72, under the Berry Street Victoria Enterprise Agreement. The value of the salary can be increased through salary packaging. 5. This position comes with access to full private use of a Berry Street motor vehicle. 6. Superannuation will be paid according to Superannuation Guarantee into a compliant fund of your choice or into HESTA Superannuation Fund. 7. The successful applicant will be required to undergo satisfactory pre-employment checks, including 3 professional referees, a pre-existing injury/disease declaration, a criminal records check and proof of identify and qualifications. 8. The successful applicant will initially be employed for a probationary period of 5 months. During this period, either party can terminate employment with one week's notice. A probationary review before 5 months will be undertaken. 9. Agency vehicles are available for authorised use and these should be used at all times for work-related purposes, in accordance with the Berry Street Motor Vehicle Policy. However, if you are authorised to use your own vehicle for work-related purposes, you will be paid an allowance per kilometre, which includes provision for comprehensive insurance and other running costs. Berry Street is unable to insure private vehicles owned by staff and will not accept any liability for damage to any staff vehicles incurred while being used for workrelated purposes. 10. Under Victorian WorkCover legislation, it is the applicant s duty to advise Berry Street of any pre-existing medical condition, which could be aggravated by the type of employment for which they are applying. The existence of a medical condition will not preclude you from employment, unless you are unable to perform the inherent requirements of the position. However failure to disclose any relevant injury or disease will jeopardise any entitlement you may otherwise have for a work-related aggravation of that non-disclosed pre-existing condition. 11.
