3 November 1, 2018 Dear Lay Carmelites of the Provinces of St. Elias and The Most Pure Heart of Mary, The Interprovincial Lay Carmelite Commission is busily preparing another special Convocation in the summer of 2019, for all Lay Carmelites of the United States and Canada. This letter comes to you with the brochure of information and registration form for the upcoming Lay Carmelite Convocation to be held from July 19-21, 2019, in downtown Chicago. It is our hope that many of you are planning to participate in what will be an interesting and informative gathering from the two provinces in North America. The Convocation theme Elijah: Inner Fire Outward Zeal will be presented by dynamic Carmelites Prior General Fernando Millan, O. Carm., friars Nicholas Blackwell, O.Carm., Glenn Snow, O.Carm., and Prior Provincial of the PCM province William J. Harry, O.Carm. Our contemporary presenters also include a number of Lay Carmelites who will lead workshops during Saturday morning and afternoon sessions giving practical thoughts on our Convocation theme for today s Lay Carmelite. Liturgies are included for this Convocation including Morning and Evening Prayer and Eucharist on Saturday and Sunday. Because this weekend has been planned with inspiration, encouragement, and community in mind it does not have the same feel as a retreat or day of recollection. Consequently you will not find a prayer room or chapel within the hotel. Complete information about the Hilton Chicago Hotel is included in the enclosed brochure. Reservations are to be made directly with the Hilton either by phone or a special website for the Lay Carmelites (see brochure for details). Registration is open now and it is highly recommended that you make hotel reservations as soon as possible. The registration form to be completed for the Convocation program is on the reverse side of this letter. Our theme for the day is Affirm, Thank, Inspire. We want to acknowledge our Lay Carmelite leaders throughout the provinces of The Most Pure Heart of Mary and Saint Elias for the hard work and dedication you provide your regions and communities. Our goal for the day is to inform, support, and encourage current and future leaders in the Lay Carmelite community. Participant check in and material pick up will be from 7:45 8:30 a.m. Leadership Day presentations begin at 8:30 a.m. Leadership Day events end by 4 p.m. Anyone who wishes to attend would need to arrange overnight accommodations at the hotel for Thursday night in addition to your Friday-Saturday night stay. Lay Carmelites in both provinces are planning the following topics for the day: Overall structure of the Order and Provinces Governance and healthy functioning in the LC community, Finances, Roles of the regional coordinator and regional formation coordinator, Fostering leadership and vocations, Updates from the Province, and panel question/answer time. Cost for Leadership Day is a separate fee of $25.00, which includes costs for materials and handouts. Lunch will be on your own. Space will be limited so please register as soon as possible.
