From the STTI website: Celebrating 90 years of nursing excellence In 1922, six nursing students founded Sigma Theta Tau at the Indiana University Training School for Nurses. The Greek letters they chose stood for storgé, tharsos and timé : love, courage and honor. Ninety years later, the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) serves 130,000 active members in more than 85 countries and the nursing profession at large. This year, STTI members will celebrate through a variety of activities that are based on President Suzanne Prevost's call to action: Give Back to Move Forward. Omicron Tau will be celebrating this event as well. The members of Omicron Tau decided to donate 90 household items to the Domestic Violence Crisis Center (DVCC) in Minot, ND. The mission of the DVCC is to provide a full range of services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and to reduce domestic violence by educating the public about its effects. The DVCC serves 4 counties in ND (Ward, Pierce, McHenry, and Renville). The DVCC has a 24 hour crisis hotline and a rape crisis hotline. For more information about the DVCC you can visit their website at: Omicron Tau members thought that this was a great way to Give back to Move forward! Ideas of items to be donated include: Toiletry items: shampoo, soap, body wash, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, shaving cream, razor, toilet paper, sanitary items, acetaminophen, ibuprofen Other Items: Paper towels, laundry detergent, fabric softener, garbage sacks, Kleenex, dish soap Bottles, nipples, pacifiers, toddler clothes Please bring items to the Sept 10 th board meeting at 5pm at MSU Department of Nursing, or call Melissa Fettig at to set up a time to drop off the items. Thank You!! Please see attached flyer!!
2 Page 6 of 6 Page 6 of 6 Page 2 of 7 A Message from the President Greetings, Sigma Theta Tau is celebrating its 90th anniversary. Anniversaries are a time to reflect on what has been and what could be. The March Chapter Leadership Emphasis has an article on ideas of how we might celebrate. Some suggestions include a group of members doing 90 minutes of exercise (once or for a longer period of time), complete 90 hours of community service, send 90 member appreciation cards, acknowledging the chapter s gratitude for their participation, or collect 90items to donate to a service organization. That s just a start. In discussion at the last board meeting, the group decided to collect 90 personal and paper items to donate to Domestic Violence Center for Women as they leave the center to set up housekeeping. The goal is to complete the project by Halloween. Items can be brought to the next board meeting at the MSU Department of Nursing on Tuesday September 10 th, 2013 at 5pm. Please see attached flyer for further information. I have just completed the Chapter Key Award application. Interesting. I sent a message to all active members via their addresses, and did receive a number of items to include in the report. We needed at least 53 points to be eligible. We totaled 66 points. Congratulations to all of you who do things in the community, your work place and for the chapter. I am looking for a good person who would take the current report, and the report for and begin to collect data for the next report. One of my goals for this year is to work with committees and others to carry on the work of the chapter. We do an amazing amount of work in spite of ourselves. Thanks to all who have done and are doing good works for the benefit of society and the chapter.
