3 E D U C A T I O N P R O G R A M The School of Health Related Professions was established as a formal institution of the University in This school has been successful in creating a consistent framework for allied health and nursing education statewide. As a nurse-midwifery student, you will have access to the state s largest and foremost center for health education, research and service. Specific campus resources include: The UMDNJ-University Hospital, one of the state s primary tertiary care centers. The UMDNJ-George F. Smith Library, a major resource for biomedical literature in the state and northeast. The University also operates the UMDNJ-NJ Medical School, UMDNJ- NJ Dental School and the UMDNJ Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences on its Newark campus. Nurse Midwifery: A Challenging Career Certified nurse-midwives (CNM s) are individuals educated in two disciplines nursing and midwifery. The Educational Challenge The program is based on a modified mastery learning curriculum. All qualified, behavioral, terminal objectives, sub-objectives and tasks are specified and organized into logical units of study (modules). Page 1
