4 COURSE DESCRIPTION Over the past four decades, volumes of research and numerous clinical innovations have revolutionized the treatment of depressive spectrum disorders. In this exciting new workshop, Dr. Burns describes four powerful models for the treatment of depression and increasing self-esteem: The Motivational Model, The Cognitive model, The Behavioral Model, and the Interpersonal Model. He illustrates how to bring these models to life for patients suffering from mood disorders, including bipolar disorder. Dr. Burns will also emphasize the importance of healing yourself if you want to offer credible, effective and dynamic treatment for your patients. This program is suggested for psychologists, social workers, counselors, psychiatric nurses, advanced graduate students and other healthcare professionals with an intermediate knowledge in this field. It is not suitable for the general public. STATEMENT OF NEED Depression-related issues are among the most common reasons why patients seek professional help. Needs assessment data collected from a variety of sources indicate training in practical, effective methods for dealing with depression-related symptoms and problems would be of ongoing value to professional therapists. David Burns' live workshop, was developed to address these needs. This home study will allow professionals for whom attending a live workshop is difficult or inconvenient to receive the same training benefit and increase their clinical skills. GOALS & OBJECTIVES Overall goal: Participants will be able to assess anxiety disorders and comorbid conditions. The course will: Describe the Cognitive, Behavioral, Motivational, and Interpersonal Models for depression Deliver new high-speed treatment techniques for overcoming depression and increasing selfesteem Detect suicidal urges and prevent suicide attempts Diagnose and overcome the eight most common forms of resistance Distinguish between the Self-Defense Paradigm and the Acceptance Paradox Integrate the new CBT with your patients spiritual beliefs Develop a warm and trusting therapeutic alliance with hostile, critical, mistrustful patients Date of Original Release: October 2009 Revision Date: May 2016 Termination Date: May
