Why should we be concerned with developing emotional literacy in children? Children s awareness around feelings do not come naturally. Being able to recognize, express, and manage a range of emotions benefits a child s mental health and well-being. And being able to emotionally regulate emotions has a role in developing the necessary cognitive skills for success in school. So how do we teach kids about feelings? This workshop will define emotional literacy, social-emotional learning, emotional intelligence and empathy while making the case for emotional development in children and providing practical tips and strategies for parents and caregivers. Let s give them the gift of identifying and coping with their whirlwind of BIG EMOTIONS and lifelong emotional health. Guidance 2.1, 2.2, 2.4, 4.2, 4.4 The early childhood classroom is a busy and dynamic environment; teachers are working hard every day to provide the best educational opportunities for children. Using a collection of interesting museum objects, participants will have their own curiosity piqued as they learn techniques for creating deeper engagement, more critical thinking and application of science skills throughout the daily schedule and across content areas.
