2 Program Purpose This educational program will provide healthcare professionals with information on the latest scientific updates and guidelines, technology, and thought-provoking topics to improve patient care related to cardiovascular and stroke issues. The long-term effect of the workshop will be to help promote improvement in the quality of care, improve outcomes, and quality of life for all patients. Target Audience The target audience includes physicians, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, emergency medical services (EMS) personnel, and radiologic technologists. Subspecialties include neurology, cardiology, emergency medicine, telemetry, critical care, medical/ surgical, intensive care, and rehabilitation. CE Credits 7.00 continuing education credits available for physicians, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists and EMS personnel. Course Learning Objectives Attendees will be able to: List two examples of how the stroke patient population will benefit from the healthcare provider s adherence to the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association guidelines. Describe two possible system-wide solutions to improve patient outcomes. Describe two rapidly evolving advances to prevent and treat stroke. Provide two examples of how to use a patient-centered narrative as a means to provide a culturally appropriate way of communicating heart disease awareness and education among patients in Hawaii. Identify two therapies used to reduce stroke risk in patients with atrial fibrillation.
