This session will give providers all the information they need to prepare and understand this very specific survey process. What is the feedback from facilities on surveys they are receiving? What are surveyors looking for and what tools can facilities use. Marilyn Mines, RN, BC, RAC-CT is a Senior Manager at Marcum LLP responsible for consulting to various SNFs regarding compliance, reimbursement, and survey preparation. UTILIZING THE MEDICAID COST REPORT Presented by Joshua Banach The Medicaid Cost Report gives the State an idea of the financial position of nursing homes, but it can do the same for administrators and owners. This session will explain how to utilize a cost report for your own benefit by providing a better understanding of the financial position of your nursing home. Joshua Banach, CPA is the Senior Manager of Advisory Services for Marcum LLP responsible for preparation and review of both Medicare and Medicaid cost reports, handling regulatory agency audits of these reports on behalf of providers. DYNAMIC DINING ON A DIME Presented by Gretchen Robinson R.D, LD, Martin Distributing This session will help you create a menu that will have your senior living customers excited for the next meal: establish food quality standards for your culinary team and discover cost control tips for managers on purchasing, kitchen efficiencies and more! 10:15 11:45 am: General Session and Election of INHAA Board of Directors KEYNOTE SPEAKER: MATT MAYBERRY WINNING PLAYS Matt specializes in maximizing the performance of individuals and organizations worldwide. Matt does this by weaving his own personal story of making it to the top of his profession as a professional athlete with the Chicago Bears to then getting hurt his very first game and hitting rock bottom. With his dreams shattered, Matt had to dig deep within and learn to see failure and adversity as a springboard to success rather than a pit of despair. Matt Mayberry is a highly acclaimed keynote speaker and performance strategist. Providers throughout the country have successfully implemented person-based technologies to lessen isolation, increase a sense of empowerment and well-being resulting in reduction of psychotropic drugs. This session will familiarize the audience with these technologies and their use. Jack York is a sought after speaker on technology as a means to create personalized experiences.

COMMUNICATING TO BUILD TRUST AND TEAMWORK Presented by Judy Ryan Most people don t realize when they are speaking in ways that demoralize themselves or others. In this session participants learn the difference between listening and hearing, and how to use language to create positive change. New skills include how to make accountable requests and agreements, encourage, transform frustrations, and eliminate gossip. This session is designed to provide awareness and strategies for noticing and transforming communications to create positive and encouraging relationships and effects. Judy Ryan is the founder of Life Works Systems, an award-winning company helping providers develop an extraordinary culture where people get along, get motivated and get more done. THE SWEEPING CMS PROPOSED RULE Presented by Nicholas Lynn J.D./R.Ph. CMS proposed the most sweeping rule changes for long term care certification in more than twenty years, affecting abuse reporting, QAPI, care planning, ethics, staffing, discharge procedures, infection control, physician services and more. CMS reviewed 10,000 comments filed in opposition to the rule. This session will review these proposed regulations affecting every aspect of LTC operations. Nick Lynn R.Ph, J.D., Vice Chair of Duanne Morris, LLP former IDPH division chief, and General Counsel to IHCA and INHAA. 4:00 5:30 pm: Concurrent Sessions CHANGES TO THE LIFE SAFETY CODE 2000 VS Presented by Henry Kowalenko and Dennis Schmitt The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) rolls out a new edition of the Life Safety Code every three years. In many cases, it doesn t directly affect healthcare facilities since the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS) has not adopted a new edition since March 2003, when they adopted the 2000 Edition of the Life Safety Code. However, In June, the 2012 Edition of the Life Safety Code was finalized and approved by the NFPA membership. The 2012 Edition has numerous updates that directly affect healthcare facilities. This session will review the difference between the 2000 and 2012 code and what providers need to do to be in compliance. Henry Kowalenko is the IDPH Division Chief for the Division of Life Safety and Construction. Dennis Schmitt is an architect with the Department. HOW TO SUCESSFULLY INCORPORATE THE INTERACT 4.0 QUALITY IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM Presented by: Sue LaGrange and Lisa Thomson Understanding and implementing INTERACT Quality Improvement Program (QIP) is critical to post-acute care organizations as they prepare for the future of health care. Post-acute care leaders must align their organization with other health care providers in order to meet the demands of the new health care environment. This interactive session presented by Certified INTERACT Master Trainers will provide a leadership perspective on INTERACT QIP care processes, tools and resources for implementation success. Sue LaGrange, B.S.N is Director of Education for Pathway Health. Lisa Thomson, B.S is the Chief Marketing and Strategy Officer for Pathway Health WHAT YOUR MEDICAL DIRECTOR CAN DO FOR YOU AND YOUR FACILITY Presented by Albert.S.Maurer, M.D. With the demand to limit rehospitalizations, providers need to ensure that staff is communicating professionally with medical staff. Giving accurate and complete information to physicians allows the doctor to feel confident in making choices based on information from facility staff. This interactive session will look at scenarios and how they affect and are interpreted by the physician, staff and administrator. Bill Bell is the regulatory director for the Illinois Health Care Association and was Deputy Associate Director of the Illinois Department of Public Health for nearly three decades. Matt Hartman is the VP of Public Policy for the Illinois Health Care Association. DHS/IDPH DD FACILITY UPDATE Presented by Michael Bibo This session provides an overview of the primary IDPH survey, DHS reimbursement, marketplace and legal developments and trends in facilities serving clients with developmental disabilities. Mike Bibo is the President of the Center for Developmental Disabilities Advocacy and Community Supports. HOT TOPICS AND TRENDS IN ALF/SLF Presented by Neville Bilimoria This session will provide the latest information on Assisted Living and Supportive Living Facilities in Illinois. The latest trends in litigation, including federal and state public policy trends, and regulatory developments. Neville Bilimoria is a partner with Duane Morris, LLP, and was named one of the top 40 attorneys in Illinois under 40 in And a Leading Lawyer in healthcare law. 10:00 11:30 am: General Session QUALITY IMPROVEMENT ORGANIZATION S (QIO) MEDICARE AND MEDICAID INITIATIVES Presented by Patricia Merryweather Telligen is the Quality Innovation Network (QIN) which drives quality in Illinois healthcare for Medicare beneficiaries by providing communities with technical assistance, convening learning and action networks for sharing best practices, and collecting and analyzing data for improvement. QIN-QIO initiatives involve physicians, hospital and nursing homes. This session will review the QIN initiatives and what CMS will be looking at when it comes to quality and how the QIN-QIO can help facilities to achieve their goals. CONTINUING EDUCATION The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation has approved INHAA as a sponsor of continuing education for Illinois Nursing Home Administrators (License # ) and Nurses (License # ). This conference offers Administrators and Nurses 6 CEUs on Wednesday and 5 CEUs on Thursday. REGISTRATION FEES INHAA members and others from their staff pay the member fee of $125. Non-members pay $225. Registrations made after October 26 and at the door must include a late fee of $50 per person. Registrations will not be guaranteed without a payment. Credit card payments (Master Card and VISA only no AMEX) are available for pre-registration and also on-site. CANCELLATION POLICY A full credit voucher toward a future INHAA conference will be issued (upon written request to the Association Office) for cancellation for any reason 14 or more days prior to the conference. For cancellations 13 or fewer days prior to the conference, a non-refundable fee of $25 will be assessed for each reservation and a credit voucher will be issued for the remaining balance.
