1 ASSOCIATE DEGREE NURSING PROGRAM GENERIC TRACK Admission Requirements Minimum admission standards for the Nursing Program include: 1. Unconditional admission to the college. 2. Receipt of completed application packet for the Nursing Program by the following deadline dates: 5 semester curriculum/ Fall only. June 1st at 12:00 noon for the Fall semester admission 3. A minimum 2.50 GPA on the last 24 hours of college courses completed in a transcripted term. 4. A minimum 2.50 high school GPA for students without prior college work (GED acceptable in lieu of high school transcript). 5. Official transcript(s) from all college(s) attended must be sent to the Office of Admissions and Records 6. Unofficial transcript(s) from all college (s) attended must be enclosed in the Application packet 7. Eligibility for English 101, Math 100 and BIO 201 during first term of associate degree nursing as determined by college policy. 8. A score on the TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills) (Less than 3 years old) A recommended score of 50 is conducive to program success. 9. Good standing with the Wallace Community College Selma (2.0 or higher GPA) 10. Meeting the essential functions required for nursing. 11. Pass Drug Screening and Background Check. Meeting minimal requirements does not guarantee acceptance. After meeting all minimum requirements, applicants are ranked using a point system based on: 1. Total number of points obtained on the TEAS test. 2. Points for grades in selected college courses: Generic A B C BIO BIO BIO OR Points for grades in selected high school courses if applicant has not attended college. (Maximum 90 points) A B C Highest Level Biology (including A&P Algebra II or Higher level Math Chemistry Admission to the Nursing Programs is competitive, and the number of students is limited by the number of faculty and clinical facilities available.
2 ASSOCIATE DEGREE PROGRAM LPN to RN Options Admission Requirements Minimum admission standards for the Nursing Program include: 1. Unconditional admission to the college. 2. Receipt of completed application packet for the Nursing Program by the following deadline dates: 3 semester curriculum/ Summer only. December 1st at 12:00 noon for the Summer semester admission 3. A minimum 2.50 GPA on the last 24 hours of college courses completed in a transcripted term. 4. A valid, unencumbered Alabama LPN License 5. Must have completed the following courses with a C or higher, prior to enrollment in the LPN to RN Mobility Program: MTH 100 College Algebra (or higher math, i.e. Pre-Calculus, Finite Math, etc.) (3 credit hours) BIO 201 Human Anatomy & Physiology I (4 credit hours) BIO 202 Human Anatomy & Physiology II (4 credit hours) ENG 101 English Composition (3 credit hours) *NUR 200 Nursing Career Mobility Assessment 6. A score on the TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills) (Less than 3 years old) A recommended score of 50 is conducive to program success. 7. Good standing with the Wallace Community College Selma (2.0 or higher GPA) 8. Meeting the essential functions required for nursing. 9. Pass Drug Screening and Background Check. *This course is not required if you graduated from the Approved Alabama Community College System practical nursing curriculum within the previous two years. Once enrolled in the mobility program, WCCS LPN-RN mobility students will receive 5 hours credit for NUR 200. Meeting minimal requirements does not guarantee acceptance.
3 The Mobility Program is designed for Licensed Practical Nurses and enables them to complete the Associate in Applied Science Degree (Nursing) in three semesters. The Associate Degree Nursing Program at Wallace Community College Selma offers two options for the LPN to RN Mobility Program: Option I: Traditional LPN to RN Mobility Program Students attend classes usually on Mondays and Wednesdays from approximately 8:30am-12:30pm. Students are required to attend 2-4 Tuesday classes from 8:30-12:30 (per semester). Students are required to attend 90 hours of clinical rotations usually on Thursdays and Fridays. Students are required to attend skills laboratories and simulation laboratories throughout the semester. Students can download the majority of lectures from any computer with internet access. May require 1-2 evening clinical rotations. Option 2: Hybrid on-line LPN to RN Program The student is not required to come to a routine traditional classroom setting. The students are required to come to class on exam days at 8:30am (usually 6-8 exams per semester). Students are required to attend 2-3 classes per semester for orientation, skills laboratory, simulation laboratory, etc. Students can download lectures from any computer with internet access. Students usually communicate with the instructor via online chat room, message board, or telephone. Students are allowed to come to the traditional class as desired for difficult concepts. Students are required to attend 90 hours of clinical rotations usually on weekends or during the evening hours. The deadline date for returning the mobility application packet is December 1, the year prior to admission. For further information please call or Tracy Shannon, A.D.N. 4 ADDITIONAL NURSING PROGRAM ENROLLMENT REQUIREMENTS Students accepted for admission into the nursing program will be required to submit the following: Current Health Form completed by a licensed physician or nurse practitioner (form provided by nursing program). Documentation of TB skin test each year. Documentation of Tetanus with Diphtheria within past 10 years. Measles & Rubella vaccine or titer (A titer is a blood test for antibodies). Varicella (chickenpox) documentation by a physician or titer drawn. Ability to meet the Essential Functions with or without reasonable accommodations. Any students requiring accommodations must meet with the WCCS ADA Coordinator at or sheila.theiss@wccs.edu. Current CPR certification for health care providers (on-line course is not acceptable). Background checks as stipulated by the agencies with which the nursing department contracts for clinical experiences. Drug screen which is scheduled by the nursing department prior to the student s first clinical experience and randomly throughout enrollment in the program. *The nursing programs highly recommend an annual seasonal influenza vaccination. *Some clinical agencies may require the influenza vaccination.
5 APPLICATION PACKET MUST BE COMPLETE TO BE ACCEPTED BY STUDENT SERVICES NURSING PROGRAM (Initial each requirement and return to Student Services) Application for Admission to WCCS or Readmission form on file with Student Services Completed Nursing Application must indicate program of interest (LPN, Generic, or Mobility) All generic program applicants must indicate if you want to be considered for the LPN program if not accepted into the RN program. Unconditional admission to WCCS (In good standing with a 2.0 or higher GPA) An official copy of all transcripts (high school and/or all colleges attended) must be on file in the Office of Student Services prior to deadline dates to be considered for admission. A minimum of 2.50 GPA on the last 24 hrs of College work completed A minimum of 2.50 high school GPA for students without prior college work (GED acceptable in lieu of high school transcript) Eligibility for ENG101 and MTH116 (PN); MTH 100 (ADN) as determined by Compass Test and College policy Signed Essential Functions form (meeting the essential functions or technical standards required for nursing) Signed Student Drug Screen Policy Participating Form (Drug Screening Fee $38.00 paid when cleaning fees) Fees are subject to change. Signed Background Screening Consent and Release Form (Background Fee $45.00 paid to Verified Credentials at the time screening is scheduled. Fees are subject to change. A TEAS score (Test of Essential Academic Skills within the 3 years of application date) Registration Fee $66.00 All documents, including official transcripts for each individual college attended must be on file in the Office of Student Services or included in this packet in sealed official envelopes. Students who have college credit from Wallace Community College Selma do not have to obtain official Wallace Community College Selma transcripts to include in this packet. Reminder! Application will NOT be accepted if transcript(s) is not on file. Students who are transferring from another college are not required to include a high school transcript unless they wish it to be used in the evaluation process. Meeting minimal requirements does not guarantee acceptance to the Nursing Program. After meeting all minimum requirements, applicants are rank-ordered using a point system. See page 7 of this packet for more details for more information and the attachment on calculation of points for selection. Student Signature Date
6 LPN /GENERIC/MOBILITY PROGRAM OPTIONS WALLACE COMMUNITY COLLEGE SELMA We are pleased that you are interested in the Nursing Programs at WCCS. We offer three options Licensed Practical Nursing, Associated in Applied Science (Generic) and Mobility (LPN to RN). Licensed Practical Nurse applicants may choose to complete the 3, 4, or 5 semester track. The Associate in Applied Science Degree is a 5 semester program for generic students, and a 3 semester program for mobility students. When applying for admission, program applicants must submit the following documents, as a complete package to the Office of Student Services no later than the listed deadline dates. 1. Wallace Community College Application for general admission to the college. 2. Official college/technical program transcripts. An official transcript from each individual college, university and/or technical school attended must be submitted with the application to the Office of Student Services at Wallace Community College in a sealed official envelope or unofficial copies attached with official ones ordered. 3. Program Application. 4. Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) Exam percentage score. The TEAS score must be within the past 3 years of the application deadline date. A student may repeat the TEAS V (or current version) once during any semester admission timeframe. A student must wait at least six weeks between taking each test. 5. A signed Essential Functions Form indicating that you meet the technical requirements required in nursing with or without accommodations. The Essential Functions form must be read and signed by you, not your physician, and submitted with your application. The nursing faculty reserves the right at any time to require an additional medical examination at the student s expense in order to assist with the evaluation of the student s ability to perform the essential functions. 6. Reviewed Drug Screen Policy (will require a $38.00 drug screening fee, to be paid when clearing fees) Fees are subject to change. 7. Reviewed Background Screening Policy (will require a background screening fee $45.00 to be paid on-line to Verified Credentials at the time screening is scheduled. Fees are subject to change. 8. A 2.5 GPA for the last 24 semester hours of college(s) work completed. 9. Unconditional acceptance to Wallace Community College Selma. 10. Be in good standing with WCCS (2.0 or higher GPA). Mobility Applicants We are pleased that you are interested in the Mobility Associate Degree Nursing Program at WCCS. The mobility program is designed for Licensed Practical Nurses and enables them to complete the Associate in Applied Science Degree in three semesters. Should you choose to apply for admission to the A.D.N. Mobility Program, you must submit the following documents, as a complete package to the Office of Student Services no later than December Good Standing with WCCS if attending or previously attended (2.0) or greater GPA from WCCS. 12. Must have a valid, unencumbered Alabama LPN license. 13. Must complete the following courses with a C or higher, prior to enrollment in the LPN to RN Mobility Program: a. MTH 100 College Algebra (or Pre--Calculus, Finite Math, etc.) 3 credit hours b. BIO 201 Human Anatomy and Physiology I (4 credit hours) c. BIO 202 Human Anatomy and Physiology II (4 credit hours) d. BIO220 Microbiology (4 credit hours) e. ENG 101 English Composition I (3 credit hours) f. *NUR 200 Nursing Career Mobility Assessment *This course is not required if you graduated from the Approved Alabama College System Practical Nursing curriculum within the previous two years. Once enrolled in the mobility program, LPN/RN mobility students will receive 6 hours credit for NUR 200. Once the mobility program is successfully completed, 15 non-traditional credit hours will be awarded for NUR 102, NUR 103, NUR 104, NUR 105 & NUR 106.
