1 POSITION DESCRIPTION Position Details: Title: Obstetric Physician Department: Regional Maternity Service - Women s Health Reports to: Service Clinical Director Regional Maternity Service Location: Auckland City Hospital and Greenlane Clinical Centre Authorised by: Service Clinical Director Date: September 2015 Primary Function: To provide high quality specialist clinical care in consultation with the Obstetric team for antenatal and postpartum woman with medical complications of pregnancy. Clinical practise will be evidencebased and supports National Woman s Health in providing a clinical service to the community. To provide leadership and teaching for junior doctors and contribute to an effective service environment. CLINICAL FOCUS National Women s Health (Permanent Part time) Inpatient care: provision of clinical care in consultation with obstetric team for antenatal and postpartum women with medical complications of pregnancy. Clinical service provided Monday to Friday ( ); after-hours rostered weekends on-call (approximately 1 in 4-5) and 1 x week after hours on call from home. Supervision and support of obstetric medicine registrar (generally an advanced trainee in general medicine). Out-patient clinics High risk maternal fetal medicine (x 1 weekly) and diabetes in pregnancy clinic (x 1 weekly) Waitemata DHB (Additional duties if full time employment preferred) Out-patient clinics. Obstetric medicine clinic 1 weekly, 1 alternate weeks Diabetes in pregnancy clinic: 1 weekly Position Obstetric Physician SMO NWH Area Acute clinical assessments and inpatient care Required actions when on clinical ward service at National Women s Health 1 Ward round with obstetric medicine registrar of inpatients on antenatal and postpartum patients on obstetric wards. 2 2 Coordinate with MDT (e.g. obstetricians, ward midwives, allied health, clinical charge midwife etc.) as required 3 Teaching as prescribed (At least 1 informal teaching session with obstetric medical registrar each week when consultant on clinical ward service). Involvement in registrar teaching for obstetrics and gynaecology trainees. Contribution to teaching of midwives as required. 4 Documentation review - SMO responsible to ensure Electronic Discharge Summaries, Labs, Radiology etc. signed off and completed 5 Provide appropriate clinical handover to on call obstetric physician. 6 Attendance at weekly multi-disciplinary maternal-fetal medicine ward round (it is expected that the obstetric physician not on clinical-service also attend this weekly meeting) Required actions throughout the year 7 Attend team and unit meetings (CME, business meetings, perinatal mortality meeting, combined anaesthesia/obstetric meetings) 8 Attendance at out-patient clinics in Obstetric Medicine and Diabetes in Pregnancy (both sites): antenatal, postpartum and pre-pregnancy assessments Position Obstetric Physician SMO Waitemata DHB Required actions throughout the year 1 Attendance at out-patient clinics in Obstetric Medicine and Diabetes in Pregnancy (both sites): antenatal, postpartum and pre-pregnancy assessments 2 Advice re in-patients at WDHB as required by clinical staff. In-patient review if appropriate. Additional Responsibilities Accept calls from GPs, obstetricians, midwives relating to patient care. Ability to appraise junior doctors Proven application of research outcomes to clinical problems An awareness of current specialty developments, initiatives and issues. Desired Higher degree Knowledge of the implications of the Treaty of Waitangi and a commitment to biculturalism Publications in relevant peer-reviewed journals in the past five years.
