Upcoming Events Saturday, October 19 For more information or to register online, visit ECHO (Employees Contributing to Help Others) kicked off in Bowling Green with its theme Barnyard Bash on Thursday, September 26. More than 280 employees attended the event, and it was a great day for eating outside, having fun and enjoying the show. A mammogram can help detect breast cancer in the early stages when it is more treatable. In an effort to help spread this important message, The Medical Center found a unique way to usher in breast cancer awareness month. At the end of September, a large pink ribbon was painted on the lawn of The Medical Center along the 31W Bypass. While the painted ribbon is only temporary, hopefully the image will remain WKDI: One Year Later On October 1, 2012 WKDI became a department of The Medical Center, expanding the hospital s diagnostic imaging services for the community. The goal was to make the transition as seamless as possible. It was amazing to see how the staff at WKDI embraced the transition and accepted all the changes that had to be made when becoming part of a hospital, said Eddie Scott, Director of Radiological Services for The Medical Center. It is inspiring to see such engagement by the staff. All staff with WKDI became employees of The Medical Center, allowing patients to continue to see the friendly faces they had come to know. Technology was updated with the addition of the PACS system to allow for diagnostic images to be viewed and archived electronically. Integration into the hospital s PACS system and the use of voice recognition software enabled WKDI to significantly improve its report turnaround time to referring physicians. WKDI utilizes the same group of radiologists who read and interpret for The in the minds of women and prompt them to take action. One life-saving action that women can take is to have their yearly mammogram. A mammogram improves a woman s chances of finding cancer in the most treatable stages. If you are 40 years or older, you should have a screening mammogram every year. Schedule your mammogram with one of The Medical Center s Mammography departments: Western Kentucky Diagnostic Imaging The Medical Center Diagnostic Imaging Center The Medical Center at Franklin The Medical Center at Scottsville Medical Center. Previously WKDI had three radiologists on staff. They now have 10 radiologists who bring extensive training, experience and expertise in various diagnostic imaging modalities. The WKDI staff has done an awesome job working through this transition while still providing outstanding patient care, said Trisha Lackey, Administrative Services Manager for WKDI. It s been an exciting and challenging year. Having the resources of The Medical Center available to us offers many benefits. WKDI has always had a reputation for providing friendly service, quality imaging and convenience for its patients. That tradition continues now as part of The Medical Center family. During the month of October, WKDI and The Medical Centers at Bowling Green, Franklin and Scottsville are offering special gifts for patients receiving mammograms. To schedule a mammogram or for more information, call one of the phone numbers listed in the story above.

Witness to Wellness Food Choices made Easy and Healthy Pictured with Sandra Webb (first row, second from right) Beverly Neves, Wade Stone, Amanda Gyorgy, Emily Jernigan, Connie Smith, Jake Barrick, Cathy Bishop, and Sarah Moore. Congratulations to Sandra Webb! She is the Witness to Wellness Award recipient for October. Sandra works at The Medical Center as an Executive Secretary in Administration. She was nominated because she has met and maintained her weight loss goal of 75 pounds. Sandra decided that she needed to make a lifestyle change. She was unhappy with the way that she looked and she wanted to feel better. She looked at many different weight loss plans and chose to do Weight Watchers. She believes that it is the greatest plan out there, and in September she became a lifetime member. Sandra follows the plan very closely and believes that it teaches you to eat healthier foods and to eat proper portion sizes. Sandra reached her weight loss goal in July, and is currently maintaining her goal weight. Since losing weight, Sandra s blood pressure is controlled and she has noticed that her energy level has increased. She has the following suggestions for anyone who is trying to change their lifestyle: Just do it! Don t wait. Become your own best friend and encourage yourself every day! When you have had a bad day, just remember that at midnight the day is done and you cannot change anything about it. But at 12:01 a.m., a new day starts and you and only you can make it a great day! If you know someone who deserves to be recognized for following a healthy lifestyle, go to the Get Fit Club s web site on Citrix and nominate them for the Witness to Wellness Award. If you need additional information, contact Employee Health Services at Have you noticed anything new in the cafeteria lately? The staff with Morrison Healthcare has created an easy way for you to make healthy choices during meal time. If you see the Fit symbol, this represents a food that is moderate in calories, fat, cholesterol and sodium. The orange Controlled Sodium symbol represents food choices that contain less than 400 mg of sodium per plate. The Vegetarian symbol represents food choices that contain no meat, fish, poultry, shellfish, but may contain dairy and eggs. The Superfoods symbol represents foods that provide health benefits beyond basic nutrients. Now there is no excuse for making that bad choice during meal time!
