Included will be discussions on current evidence-based guidelines and technology for the evaluation, diagnosis and management of the patients with traumatic injuries such as, traumatic brachial plexus injury, non-accidental pediatric trauma, peripheral arterial injuries, skydiving injuries and spine injury. Objectives 1. Recognize and evaluate management of complicated conditions, such as severe alcohol withdrawal syndrome. 2. Discuss care issues seen in the trauma/surgical ICU and how this affects patient outcomes such as methamphetamine abuse and use of opioids. 3. Discuss guidelines for management and early control of injuries and acute surgical needs. 4. Review the pathophysiology and causes of Central Cord Syndrome. 5. Identify appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic guidelines for management of brachial plexus injuries. 6. Discuss the current trauma triage indicators and their relevance to predicting severe injury. 7. Review management of lifethreatening bleeding. Educational Methods Didactic lectures, panel discussions, audiovisual aids, case study analysis, practical hands-on training and questions and answers. Target Audience The course is primarily designed for physicians and nurses. In addition, surgeons, emergency physicians, anesthesiologists, surgical residents, nurse practitioners and physician assistants will benefit from this course. EMS personnel are welcomed to attend.
