It was noted that ths s a really valuable resource for people who already have dabetes. (NB: the dates have now been altered to 6 and 13 June). 4 Actons a Item 4a Women s Health Event feedback forms: complete. b Item 4c Possble future events: KR reported that the GPs are wllng to support the PPG n arrangng one preventatve healthcare event per year. It was suggested that f the PPG would lke to arrange addtonal events, the Nuffeld Shrewsbury Hosptal Sales & Servces Manager, Olva Barker, may be able to help. KR to contact Olva Barker to see what knd of help she mght be able to offer. EM added that he has spoken to a dementa champon who suggested that people mght be nterested n a sesson on dementa and mental health ssues; t was felt that mental health ssues would be of nterest to younger as well as older people. KR suggested that a couple of PPG members should attend the surgery at some pont to ask patents what knd of sessons they would be nterested n attendng. c Item 4e Blood pressure machne: KR reported that the blood pressure machne has arrved; however, there s a delay n obtanng the prvacy screen. It was clarfed that the PPG wll also pay for the screen. It had been thought that the machne would be used at Dorrngton, but t has now been decded to use t at Bayston Hll frst. 1
The Beeches Medcal Practce It was suggested that f a patent s blood pressure proves to above a certan readng, then a notce should to be made askng them to make an appontment to see a GP. KR to lase wth NF regardng fundng for the screen. A notce to be made regardng hgh blood pressure, for placng by the machne (NF/TF?). d Item 4e (v) Sgn by the bookshelves: The sgn should be altered to show that the fnancal target has been reached and the blood pressure machne has arrved at the practce. It would be good to show that a patent had made a very generous donaton whch helped to acheve ths. The sgn should also gve detals of the next project, the 24-hour blood pressure montor. NF/TF to update the sgn to show these tems. e Item 6 General Data Protecton Regulatons (GDPR): complete. f KR to emal form to GB for emalng to other PPG members. GB to emal other PPG members to ask them to complete and return the consent form. Item 7a (v) Charlotte Thornley, of the Clncal Research Network s vstng the practce tomorrow; KR wll ask f she would be wllng to speak at the PPG meetng on 4 June. KR. g Item 8c Our prortes Practce webste KR to contact Ian Carley to see f he could help to develop the practce s webste. 5 Practce ssues and update a Update from Practce Manager: Watng tmes for appontments: currently 9 days to see any GP. KR to emal GB wth nformaton on appontment watng tmes. Extended hours: Shropshre CCG s dong a patent survey on ths ssue; KR has a form for patents to complete; patents are encouraged to complete ths onlne. A plot scheme s startng n July wthn the Darwn Health groupng for routne clncal cover between 8am and 8pm, wth a rotaton of practces responsble for appontments on certan nghts or weekends. Darwn Health must ensure that clncans are avalable durng these tmes. However, there are nfrastructure problems, especally of computer systems, and the CCG wll fund ths for the frst year only. Shropdoc: From July 3 Shropshre patents who need out-of-hours (OOH) medcal help wll no longer be able to call Shropdoc; nstead they wll need to call the natonal NHS helplne 111, where ther call wll be traged. Shropdoc s current contract wth the CCG ends on September 30 and the new servce wll start on October 1. Shropdoc wll be tenderng for the OOH servce together wth ShropCom, whch provdes communty-based health 2
The Beeches Medcal Practce servces as well as runnng communty hosptals; the decson wll be made by July. v New phone system: Shropshre CCG are supplyng all practces n Shrewsbury wth a new phone system, whch should make communcatons easer wthn the Darwn Health group of practces. Ths s much-needed as the current system s falng and there s no pre-recorded message. v Another Advanced Nurse Practtoner (Andrea Ams) s to start workng part-tme at the practce from the begnnng of June. v The practce s also recrutng a Dspensary Manager for the Dorrngton ste, who wll source the best prce for medcatons wth a vew to decreasng the practce s fnancal losses n ths respect. v Flu vaccnes: There s some confuson regardng the new vaccnaton programme. The two age-groups of under-65s and over-65s are now to be dealt wth separately and gven dfferent vaccnes, whch are beng sent to surgeres at a rate of 40% n September, 20% n October and 40% n November. Ths wll nevtably cause dffcultes n peak perods and encourage patents to go to a pharmacy for ther njectons, thus losng revenue for the practce. It was felt that the surgery s own vaccnaton programme needs to be better advertsed. v Shropshre Care Closer to Home programme: Ths ntatve ams to get people out of hosptal more quckly, wth fundng to assst people at home followng a hosptal stay. Shropshre CCG s organsng workshops on ths, the next of whch s n June. It s possble that dstrct matrons wll be rentroduced. Presently t s unclear who has responsblty for helpng patents after a hosptal stay. x Dr Rob Laycock has recently been made a Fellow of the Royal College of General Practtoners; RL was congratulated by all. x Fundng for projects: KM reported that to date has been rased for the 24-hour blood pressure montor, va raffles, Chrst Church coffee mornng, etc. The cost of the montor s ; the purchase had been agreed at the last PPG meetng and s needed to complete the sum. TS wll contact NF on her return from holday to sancton the release of funds. KM thanked the PPG for agreeng to make up funds for the montor. GJ suggested preparng a press release to publcse these achevements. In the Treasurer s absence TS stated that there s n the bank. He explaned that ntally the CCG had been gven 200 to start up the PPG; s left of ths orgnal fundng. TS to contact NF regardng funds for the BP montor. The PPG to compose a press release. VC to advertse ths n the Condover Parsh magazne. KM to announce ths at Chrst Church coffee mornng and thank attendees for ther generous contrbutons. KR/GPs to consder what future projects mght be sutable, e.g. the possblty of a water cooler n Recepton. 3
c GP update (RL): The Beeches Medcal Practce KR to nvestgate the cost of obtanng and mantanng a water cooler. The practce s temporarly encouragng more people to use the Dorrngton ste for appontments rather than Bayston Hll. Two regstrars, rather than one, are to be taken on at the practce n August. Together wth the appontment of a new ANP ths should mean that watng tmes should be reduced, although there are wnter/summer varatons whch are not accounted for. TS asked whether the practce has the space to accommodate the regstrars; RL repled that the regstrars would be mostly used at Dorrngton. Darwn Health s promotng the use of a pharmacst for medcaton revews, medcaton for patents n care homes, reducng paperwork, etc., and that the groupng would share 2.5 pharmacsts. Ths would mean that the pharmacst would be avalable about sx hours a week at The Beeches. v Shropshre CCG s lookng at dfferent ways of dealng wth the predcted shortfall of GPs, and also at ways of usng an assortment of clncans. d Care Coordnator s update (KM): Dementa care n the communty: KM has been supportng TL n varous projects n her capacty as a councllor on the Parsh Councl. TL s vson s to provde tranng for ths; however, ths needs to be approved and dscussed at the Parsh Councl. KM to contnue to lase wth TL. Survey: A survey for young people aged s beng prepared by the Parsh Councl, to fnd out ther opnons and needs n the communty. Dabetes awareness programme: Suse Hancock, of Shropshre Rural Communtes Charty (SRCC) Wse and Well Team, s dsapponted that to date only two people have regstered for ths. She wll be attendng the Chrst Church coffee mornng to brefly outlne the programme. TS commented that t was dsappontng that the school s not nvolved n ths. e Darwn Health: (see tem 6c ()). f Other ntatves: Wse and well event: EM reported that a general healthcare event organsed by SRCC s to take place on 26 September, wth provders such as Dabetes UK and Falls Preventon, etc. EM suggested that ths could be seen as a background to a future PPG health event. GJ commented that SRCC has been gven extra fundng for these sorts of events. Ths wll take place n the daytme on Wednesday 26 September at Dorrngton Vllage Hall. It was felt that the PPG could do somethng smlar n Bayston Hll, and that t could be useful to ask the Wse and Well Team for ther help. KM reported that there s a See and hear event on 16 May at Sundorne Sports Vllage between 10am and 4pm for those wth a sensory mparment. Vrtual Reference Group: KR commented that currently there s not a wde enough spread of representatve ages to make a useful group, and the new 4
6 AOB: The Beeches Medcal Practce Data Protecton Regulatons wll make t dffcult to contact people. Those nterested can contact the practce at thebeeches.medcalpractce@nhs.net. GB quered the PPG s Yahoo emal address gven on the practce s webste; KR confrmed that ths s montored by her at the practce. v Practce webste desgn: Some changes to the webste are necessary because of the GDPR; KR wll be dealng wth these. a GJ mentoned that n Rob Gough s absence no one else from The Beeches PPG s attendng meetngs of the Shropshre Localty Patent Group or provdng feedback. KR to speak to a representatve of the group to fnd out about mnutes of the meetngs. 7 Our prortes Items under ths headng were ncluded under other tems durng the meetng. 8 Date of next meetng: The meetng ended at 6:55pm. The next meetngs wll be held on: Monday 4 June 2018 and Monday 2 July 2018 at Bayston Hll, startng at 5:00pm. 5
