1 Ohio University Counselor Education Assessment Report This report presents the assessment of Counselor Education programs at Ohio University that are nationally accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). The Counselor Education programs are located in the Department of Counseling and Higher Education at Ohio University. The following programs are nationally accredited by CACREP: M.Ed. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling M.E d. in Clinical Mental Health/Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling M.Ed. in School Counseling Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision Data in this assessment report is presented in three sections: 1. Performance-based Assessment of Student Outcomes on Courses Taught 2. Exit Survey with Graduating Master s Students 3. Performance of Graduates on Licensure Examinations 1. Performance-based Assessment of Student Outcomes on Courses Taught The Counselor Education program regularly collects and analyzes performance-based assessments throughout the master s and doctoral curricula. Assessments are aligned to CACREP standards and demonstrate student learning outcomes for the master s programs in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC), Clinical Mental Health/Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling (CMH/CLRC), and School Counseling (SC) and for the doctoral program in Counselor Education and Supervision. Most courses have at least one key assessment, while some courses have more than one assessment for which outcome data is collected. The current performance-based assessment corresponds to the CACREP (2016) standards. Assessments are graded on a scale from 0=Does Not Meet; 1=Partially Meets; 2= Meets Expectations; and 3=Exceeds Expectation. On all key assessments, the majority of our students meet or exceed expectations. Below is a list of the assessments for each class. Performance of Graduates on Licensure Examinations Certified Rehabilitation Counselor Exam (CRC Exam) The CRC is for licensure as a professional counselor in Ohio. The CRC assesses students in the core rehabilitation counseling areas including Professional Orientation and Ethical Practice; Counseling Theories, and Evidence-Based Practice; Medical and Psychosocial Aspects of Chronic Illness and Diseases; Assessment, Occupational Analysis, and Service Implementation; Career Development and Job Placement; Demand-Side Employer Engagement; Community Resources and Partnership; Case Management; Health Care and Disability Management; Research, Methodology, and Performance Management. From October 2012 through July 2017, the Ohio University pass rate was an 81.2% on the National Counselor Exam with 13 of 16 students passing the CRC on the first attempt. National Counselor Examination (NCE) The NCE is required for licensure as a professional counselor in Ohio. The NCE assesses students in the eight CACREP core areas of counseling including Professional Orientation and Ethics, Human Growth and Development, Social and Cultural Foundations, Helping Relationships, Group Work, Career and Lifestyle Development, Appraisal, and Research and Program Evaluation. From January to December of 2016, the Ohio University pass rate was an 61.1% on the National Counselor Exam with 11 of 18 students passing the NCE on the first attempt.
