3 The Sol Shnider, M.D. Obstetrical Anesthesia Meeting OBSTETRICAL ANESTHESIA 2006 MARCH 16-19, 2006 / GRAND HYATT ON UNION SQUARE/SAN FRANCISCO, CA Educational Objectives At the conclusion of this conference the attendees should have an improved understanding of and/or ability to use: The anatomy of the epidural and spinal space and its functional impact on obstetric regional anesthesia techniques, drug action, complications and their management Controversies and utility of epidural test dose regimens Use of labor epidural analgesic techniques with lower concentrations of local anesthetics Continuous spinal anesthesia (CSA) techniques to include risks and benefits Regional anesthesia complications and how to avoid them: diagnosis and management of common adverse events Management of coagulopathies, thrombocytopenia in obstetrical anesthesia and management of hemorrhage with clotting factors Regional anesthesia management for cesarean section and the use of long acting opioids for postoperative analgesia Management of the difficult airway Anesthetic considerations for the parturient with common co-existing cardiac or pulmonary diseases How to reduce maternal morbidity and mortality: common errors, lessons learned from our collective experience and the beneficial impact of practice guidelines, simulation learning, management of provider fatigue, improved healthcare team communication and quality of care safety projects The purpose, ethics, practicality, guidelines and laws regarding informed consent in obstetrics Merits of recent advances in obstetric anesthesia This activity is presented by the Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care of the University of California School of Medicine, San Francisco. Accreditation The University of California San Francisco School of Medicine (UCSF) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. UCSF designates this Educational Activity Course #ANE06004 for a maximum of category 1 credits toward the American Medical Association (AMA) Physician s Recognition Award.
