4 THE SESSIONS LEADERSHIP AND THE NEW PRINCIPLES OF INFLUENCE Daniel H. Pink Best-Selling Author of To Sell Is Human: The Surprising Truth About Moving Others, Drive and A Whole New Mind. Leaders at every level today confront two stark realities. First, in these fiercely competitive and endlessly turbulent times, they must do more with less. Second, the old-school management techniques we ve long relied on to produce results frequently fail. Drawing on a rich trove of social science and cutting-edge practices from organizations around the world, Pink will demonstrate the new ways leaders are persuading, influencing, and motivating others. He will show the power of underused techniques such as perspective-taking, problem-finding, and using purpose as a motivator and offer concrete steps to put these ideas into action. INNOVATIVE APPROACHES ON OUR JOURNEY TOWARD IMPROVING CARE, VALUE, AND THE HEALTH OF POPULATIONS We have a tremendous opportunity to accelerate improvement on our journey toward creating health for all. In the current environment health care delivery systems are demonstrating a new level of commitment toward improving Triple Aim outcomes for the populations of patients they serve. As providers explore the boundaries of what the medical care system can impact, they are turning to patient and community partners for help. Together we will explore new approaches to population management and population health, and examples of where cross clinical community collaborations are demonstrating improvements. THE NEW PAYER: WHAT MAKES THE HEALTH CARE CONSUMER TICK? At a time when engaging the health care consumer has never been more appealing, health care organizations are increasingly failing to meet the rising expectations placed upon them by those they serve - everyday people. Listen as we share in-depth findings from cross-country research (including Maryland) on what drives consumer perceptions and behavior with special emphasis on health care selection and brand loyalty. The session will close with a strategic framework for consumer relationship-building with the future of health care in mind. PATIENT AND FAMILY ADVISORY COUNCILS (PFACs) AS PARTNERS IN RESEARCH: DRIVING TOWARD OUTCOMES THAT MATTER Sue Sheridan, MBA, MIM, DHL This session will address how Patient and Family Advisory Councils (PFACs) and Patient and Family Advisors (PFAs) in health care systems are emerging as important new partners in the design, conduct, and dissemination of patient centered outcomes research. Sue Sheridan will explain the rationale of engaging patients in research, the potential roles of the PFACs and PFAs throughout the research process, and will share real life examples from the field. This session will also cover foundational elements, structure, inputs, and potential outcomes of those health care systems who engage PFACs and PFAs as partners in research. MARYLAND MANAGING THE TOTAL COST OF CARE Maryland s health care landscape today looks very foreign from the one that existed just a few years ago. Hospitals have experimented, analyzed, and reconfigured the delivery of care, with an eye toward keeping costs in check and improving quality. The progress thus far has been noteworthy yet further delivery system change will not happen without continual progress. The questions now before us: How do we maintain and improve on the gains already made? Can we share and spread our knowledge to make fundamental and sustainable changes beyond hospital walls? Join Carmela as she attempts to answer the key question about the evolution of health care for all of Maryland s providers: What comes next?
