For more information, please visit our website at What to Expect Working with Sydney Services Group You can expect the following: Access to a broad range of employers A safe work environment Regular and up to date information on the employment market within your industry Pay rates and conditions as per relevant industry award A variety of short term and permanent work A specialist consultant will be assigned to take care of any work or payroll related queries you may have Assignment extensions and pay rate negotiations on your behalf 1.3 Your First Day at Work Please ensure: You arrive at least 5-10 mins prior to your agreed start time or as per instructions from your Sydney Services Group consultant If you have an issue locating the site, please contact the supervisor (contact details will have been sent to you via /text message) and then your Sydney Services Group consultant Once you arrive on site, you will be required to complete a site specific induction which will be conducted by your supervisor. You will also be required to complete the Sydney Services Group On- Hired Employee First Day Induction Checklist. Please ensure both you and your supervisor sign the checklist and then the completed checklist to your Sydney Services Group consultant at the end of your first day. 4 2. Work Health & Safety (WHS) Policy Sydney Services Group recognises its responsibilities to comply with the requirements of work health and safety legislation. All management, workers and contractors must observe and work within the requirements of the following policy: Sydney Services Group is committed to providing effective, safe systems of work, and resources, both financial and human, to ensure the maintenance and continual improvement of a safe working environment; Sydney Services Group is committed to achieve and maintain a level of safety which enhances Sydney Services Group s reputation and maximises Client and worker satisfaction; Internal communication is a principal element of our approach. Our safety procedures shall be documented, implemented, maintained, communicated and understood by all management and workers; Sydney Services Group and its workers shall comply with both the letter and the spirit of all applicable WHS legislation, statutory and other identified requirements; Sydney Services Group is committed to making Workplace Health and Safety an integral part of every position. Senior Management, Management and workers are responsible for ensuring that effective systems are implemented which allow workers to safely carry out their duties, take action to eliminate health and safety risks, and if that is not possible, minimising them so far as is reasonably practicable. Safety implications are considered in all planning, work activities, purchases and contracts; Workers and contractors must carry out their duties in a safe and responsible manner by following relevant safety instructions and reporting any potential workplace hazards and risks, and environmental aspects and impacts to management; Sydney Services Group is committed to continual improvement by establishing safety objectives and targets in order to meet the commitments of this Policy, and to achieve continual improvement, through measurement, reporting and corrective action. This Policy shall be available to interested parties, stakeholders, and shall be reviewed periodically to ensure it remains relevant, appropriate and has continuing suitability to the organisation. General Expectations 3.1 What We Expect from You As a Sydney Services Group On-Hired Employee, it is your responsibility to: Abide by Sydney Services Group WHS Policy Abide by our client s Workplace Policies (please request from client and read if not available at your assigned workplace) Adhere to all safe working procedures in accordance with instructions and always perform work duties in a safe manner Take reasonable care of yourself and of others who may be affected by your actions Participate in all training and consultation as requested Ensure that all Personal Protective Equipment is free from defects and worn at all times in accordance with given instructions Only perform tasks that you have been trained in, competent to carry out and instructed to carry out by your Sydney Services Group consultant Follow directions of your supervisor at all times unless you deem the directions to be unreasonable if so, please immediately report to your Sydney Services Group consultant Demonstrate a strong and consistent work ethic by performing your work duties to the highest standard and in a safe manner Arrive on time for work at the agreed time and remain until the agreed finish time Notify your supervisor of any workplace hazards, incidents or injuries and then immediately report to your Sydney Services Group consultant Submit necessary payroll documentation at per instructions to ensure timely processing To immediately notify your Sydney Services Group consultant if any of the following occur: i. If you are running late, sick or have to leave the workplace early for a reason ii. iii. Change of position duties Change in working conditions Revision 1.0 Date: 1 Mar 2018 Approved by: Page 5 of 9
6 3.2 Work Condition, Complaints and Queries Sydney Services Group expect that in the case of unsafe work conditions and complaints that arise, you as the on-hired employee have the responsibility to inform your Sydney Services Group consultant of the issue. Please also direct any work related query to your Sydney Services Group consultant. 3.3 Running Late or Sick If you are running late to your assignment then please immediately phone your Sydney Services Group consultant and then your supervisor (contact details will have been supplied to you via or text). If sick, please phone your Sydney Services Group consultant at least one hour prior to agreed start time of your assignment. 3.4 Wet Weather In the event of wet weather, please contact your Supervisor as a first point of contact and then your Sydney Services Group consultant prior to attending site. If you are unable to get in contact with either, please leave a voic with your Sydney Services Group consultant and await until further instruction is provided. 4. Work Health and Safety Requirements 4.1 Overview Work Health and Safety (WHS) is an area concerned with protecting the health and safety of people engaged in work or employment. WHS is a serious issue that all workers should be aware of. Every person has the right to a safe and healthy work environment. The Work Health and Safety Act 2011 is the most recent legislative framework that requires organisations and workers to be proactive in making the workplace safer. 4.2 Site Assessment and WHS Communication Sydney Services Group conducts regular Risk and Site Assessments to ensure you will be working in a safe environment. Sydney Services Group consultants will regularly communicate with you via and/or phone on safety matters, updates, etc. 4.3 Hazard Identification and Incident or Injury Reporting Hazard identification is the process of identifying all situations or events that could give rise to the potential for injury, illness or damage to plant or property. If you identify a hazard onsite, it is your responsibility to immediately report the hazard to your supervisor and then to your Sydney Services Group consultant. In case of an incident or injury occurring at your workplace, it is your responsibility to: i. Immediately report the hazard to your supervisor and then to your Sydney Services Group consultant ii. iii. iv. Request a hazard report form from your supervisor or Sydney Services Group consultant Immediately complete and submit the form to your supervisor and then forward to your Sydney Services Group consultant via Sydney Services Group will carry out an investigation into the matter within 24 hours of it occurring and will liaise with you accordingly Revision 1.0 Date: 1 Mar 2018 Approved by: Page 6 of 9
7 4.4 Drugs, Alcohol, and Smoking in the Workplace As a Sydney Services Group On-Hired Employee, you have a duty of care to ensure your own safety and health at work and of those around you. It is your responsibility to: Ensure that you do not commence employment while under the influence of drugs, alcohol or whilst smoking If you are a smoker, please smoke only in designated areas and at designated times as instructed by your supervisor Not be involved in the sale, supply, purchase or possession of any illegal drugs or alcohol in the workplace. If you are involved in such activity, Sydney Services Group will immediately investigate the matter and this may result in termination of your employment. Not be involved in the sale, supply or purchase of any prescription drugs in the workplace. If you are involved in such activity, Sydney Services Group will immediately investigate the matter and this may result in termination of your employment. Immediately notify your supervisor of any concerns regarding drugs, alcohol and smoking which may affect the ability of you or those around you to perform duties safely at work 4.5 Manual Handling Manual handling is any task that requires you to push, pull, lift, carry, move, hold or lower any object. As an on-hired employee you are required to follow the safe working procedures (below) for preforming manual handling. In addition you have a responsibility to report any potential incidents associated with manual handling in the workplace to your Sydney Services Group consultant. To prevent manual handling injuries, you must follow our safe working procedures: i. Take regular posture breaks ii. iii. iv. Implement task rotation for repetitive work, where possible When picking up an object/load, place your body close to the object/load and then bend your knees, not your hips or back. Do the same when lowering the load Ensure you have a firm grip of the object/load v. Do not push, pull, lift, carry, move, hold or lower any object/load that is too heavy or oversized for you vi. vii. viii. ix. When stepping onto machinery, grab rails and step onto ledge then pull yourself up If the floor is slippery or uneven, move around the area with caution and advise your supervisor Use appropriate working platforms Use appropriate aids such as a crawl board to access confined areas x. Use excavator/bobcat or other mechanical digging device such as a ditch witch whenever possible xi. 8 4.6 Personal Protective Equipment It is compulsory to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while working onsite. This includes: Steel cap boots Long sleeve pants Hi-visibility top Hard hat Gloves Ear protectors Glasses All mandatory PPE signage displayed on a work site, must also be followed. Your Sydney Services Group consultant will provide you with the PPE you need. Inform your consultant immediately if it does not fit, has any defects, is damaged or unsuitable for any reason. 4.7 Emergency Procedures and First Aid Emergency information should be displayed on notice boards located onsite. All site personnel including Sydney Services Group On-Hired Employees will be made aware of the emergency procedure onsite during the induction. It is your responsibility to be aware of the First Aid procedure and of its location onsite. You will be inducted on the First Aid procedure and location on your first day of work by your supervisor. 4.8 Workplace Harassment Workplace harassment is where a person is subject to behaviour other than sexual harassment, that is repeated, considered to be offensive, intimidating, humiliating or threatening. It is your responsibility to: Raise any issues relating to workplace harassment with your supervisor and then to your Sydney Services Group consultant Ensure you don t carry out any workplace harassment 4.9 Trenching and Excavating If your duties include trenching and excavating, it is your responsibility to liaise with the site supervisor and establish the most appropriate procedure of performing the task in a safe manner. Please ensure that you do not bend your back and immediately cease working if you feel any pain. Report any injury to your site supervisor and then to your Sydney Services Group consultant Working at Heights When required to work at heights, ensure that you: Do not work in a location where you are a risk of falling more than 1.8 m, unless an adequate fall prevention measure is in place, such as a hand rail or temporary platform less than 1.8 m below. Inform your Sydney Services Group consultant immediately if you are asked to work at over 1.8 m without adequate fall prevention. Use equipment that is in good condition and is regularly serviced Revision 1.0 Date: 1 Mar 2018 Approved by: Page 8 of 9
9 Immediately report any defects or problems to your site supervisor and then to your Sydney Services Group consultant if you deem the equipment is not in good condition Make sure the workplace and access to the workplace are safe. If the area is not barricaded and looks unsafe to work in please inform your supervisor and your Sydney Services Group consultant immediately 4.11 Violence/Aggression Management Sydney Services Group is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment free of aggression or violence for all workers, clients and visitors. Workplace violence and aggression refers to actions and incidents that may physically or psychologically harm another person. Examples of violence and aggression include, but are not limited to, verbal, physical or psychological abuse, punching, kicking, scratching, biting, grabbing, pushing, threats, attack with a weapon, throwing objects, sexual harassment or assault and any form of indecent physical contact. It is your responsibility to: Not be involved in any form of workplace violence and aggression. If you are involved in any such activity Sydney Services Group will immediately investigate the matter and this may result in termination of your employment Immediately report any incidents relating to violence or aggression to your supervisor and then your Sydney Services Group consultant Contribute to violence or aggression incident investigations, where applicable 5. Induction Declaration & Sign Off I have read, acknowledged and understood Sydney Services Group s policies and procedures set out in this Handbook. As an on-hire employee or worker of Sydney Services Group I have WHS legal responsibilities in accordance with Section 28 Duty of Workers Work Health and Safety Act 2011 in being responsible for my acts and omissions in providing a safe workplace for myself and others, along with cooperating with the employer s request to provide a safe workplace.
